SIKH GUARDS END 45 YEARS WITH BRITISH FORCES

AS THE GATES CLOSE ON THE ARMY'S AMMUNITION SERVICES DEPOT STONECUTTERS ISLAND, IT WILL ALSO MARK THE END OF 45 YEARS OF LOYAL SERVICE BY THE SIKHS WHO FORM THE ARMY DEPOT POLICE AS THEY PARADE FOR THE FINAL TIME BEFORE THE COMMANDER BRITISH FORCES HONG KONG, MAJOR- GENERAL BRYAN DUTTON, ON MONDAY (OCTOBER 24).

THE ARMY DEPOT POLICE HAVE GUARDED STONECUTTERS ISLAND SINCE OCTOBER 1949 AND ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE FORCE ARE RECRUITED FROM THE SIKH COMMUNITY IN HONG KONG. FOLLOWING THE FINAL PARADE, THE FORCE WILL DISBAND AND THE LAST SIKH FORCE IN THE BRITISH ARMY WILL TO CIVILIAN LIFE.
