LAND REGISTRY TRADING FUND ACHIEVES REMARKABLE SUCCESS

THE LAND REGISTRY HAD MADE SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENT OPERATING AS A TRADING FUND DEPARTMENT LAST YEAR, ACCORDING TO THE REGISTRY'S FIRST TRADING FUND ANNUAL REPORT TABLED IN THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL TODAY (WEDNESDAY) BY THE SECRETARY FOR PLANNING, ENVIRONMENT AND LANDS, MR TONY EASON.
THE LAND REGISTRY WAS ONE OF THE PIONEER TRADING FUND GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS ESTABLISHED ON AUGUST 1, 1993 TO OPERATE ON A SELF-FINANCING BASIS.
THE LAND REGISTRAR AND GENERAL MANAGER OF THE LAND REGISTRY TRADING FUND, MR KENNETH PANG, REPORTED A VERY SUCCESSFUL YEAR OF OPERATION IN ACHIEVING THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF IMPROVING SERVICES CUSTOMERS IN HIS FIRST ANNUAL REPORT.
"THE LAND REGISTRY HAS NOT ONLY MET ALL SERVICE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS, BUT HAS ALSO IMPROVED SERVICES TO MEET ITS CUSTOMERS' NEEDS.

"WHILE THERE WERE MANY CONTRIBUTING FACTORS, SUCCESS WAS BASICALLY THE RESULT OF THE FLEXIBLE USE OF FINANCIAL AND HUMAN RESOURCES, AND A FIRM COMMITMENT TO CUSTOMER-BASED SERVICES BY THE STAFF OF THE REGISTRY," MR PANG SAID.
THE LAND REGISTRY TRADING FUND ACHIEVED A NET PROFIT OF $23.6 MILLION FOR THE FIRST EIGHT MONTHS ENDED MARCH 31. 1991. THIS REPRESENTS AN ANNUALISED RATE OF RETURN OF 13.5 PER CENT ON AVERAGE NET FIXED ASSETS, EXCEEDING THE TARGET OF 10 PER CENT.
"THE ACHIEVEMENT WAS DUE PRINCIPALLY ΤΟ LAND REGISTRY'S EFFECTIVE COST CONTROL MEASURES," MR PANG NOTED.

THE LAND REGISTRAR ALSO REPORTED ON THE REGISTRY'S OF ITS FIRST PERFORMANCE PLEDGES SETTING SERVICE STANDARDS BASED ON CUSTOMERS' EXPECTATIONS IN AUGUST 1993.
"THESE STANDARDS HAVE BEEN MET AND WERE FURTHER ENHANCED IN AUGUST THIS YEAR, HE SAID.
MR PANG ADDED THAT THE LAND REGISTRY WAS COMMITTED ΤΟ MAKING THE BEST USE OF MODERN TECHNOLOGY TO PROVIDE VALUE-FOR-MONEY SERVICES TO ITS CUSTOMERS.
"WE HAVE RECENTLY INTRODUCED A FULLY COMPUTERISED LAND SEARCH FACILITY CALL 'DIRECT ACCESS SERVICES' (DAS) FOR CUSTOMERS TO MAKE ON- LING SEARCHES OF THE COMPUTERISED URBAN LAND REGISTERS AND PLACE ORDERS FOR COPIES OF LAND RECORDS THROUGH THEIR OWN OFFICE COMPUTER TERMINALS WITHOUT HAVING TO CALL AT OUR OFFICES, HE SAID.
