PUBLIC ENQUIRY SERVICE HANDLES OVER 2.1 M ENQUIRIES
THE PUBLIC ENQUIRY SERVICE CENTRES OF THE CITY AND NEW TERRITORIES ADMINISTRATION (CNTA) HANDLED MORE THAN 2.1 MILLION ENQUIRIES DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THIS YEAR.
THIS REPRESENTS A 16.7 PER CENT INCREASE OVER THAT RECORDED THE SAME PERIOD LAST YEAR.
IN
A CNTA SPOKESMAN SAID TODAY (SUNDAY) THAT THE CENTRAL TELEPHONE ENQUIRY CENTRE (CTEC) ALONE ANSWERED A TOTAL OF 68,871 CALLS.

THE CTEC HAS BEEN SET UP IN CNTA'S HEADQUARTERS IN WAN CHAI BACK UP THE ENQUIRY SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE 20 CENTRES AT DISTRICT LEVEL.
THESE CENTRES, LOCATED CONVENIENTLY THROUGHOUT THE TERRITORY, PROVIDE A RANGE OF SERVICES TO THE PUBLIC SUCH AS ADMINISTERING DECLARATIONS AND OATHS, MAKING REFERRALS UNDER THE FREE LEGAL ADVICE SCHEME AND RENT OFFICER SCHEME, AND DISTRIBUTING PUBLICITY MATERIALS.
DURING THE FIRST SIX MONTHS, A TOTAL OF 253,254 DECLARATIONS AND OATHS WERE ADMINISTERED, THE MORE POPULAR TOPICS BEING DECLARATIONS OF TRUE COPY OF DOCUMENT, DECLARATIONS FOR THE PURPOSE OF EDUCATION AND EXAMINATION, AND LOSS OF DOCUMENT.
MEANWHILE,
THE RATING AND VALUATION DEPARTMENT'S RENT OFFICERS, WHO ATTEND THE 15 DISTRICT OFFICES REGULARLY, RECEIVED 6,151 ENQUIRIES ON RENT AND TENANCY-RELATED MATTERS.
MOREOVER, THE PUBLIC ENQUIRY SERVICE CENTRES' STAFF REFERRED 1,744 CASES TO THE HONG KONG LAW SOCIETY UNDER THE FREE LEGAL, ADVICE SCHEME.

OCCASIONAL CHILD CARE SCHEME TO EXPAND
THE SOCIAL WELFARE DEPARTMENT WILL INCREASE THE NUMBER OF OCCASIONAL CHILD CARE PLACES FROM 225 TO 405 STARTING FROM NEXT MONTH.
A SPOKESMAN FOR THE DEPARTMENT TODAY (SUNDAY) APPEALED ΤΟ PARENTS TO MAKE FULL USE OF THE SERVICE AND TO AVOID LEAVING THEIR CHILDREN UNATTENDED AT HOME.
