ADDRESSING THE GRADUATION CEREMONY OF ST MARY'S CANOSSIAN COLLEGE, MR WONG STRESSED THE IMPORTANCE OF PROVIDING QUALITY EDUCATION NOT JUST IN A FEW WELL-KNOWN SCHOOLS, BUT IN AS MANY SCHOOLS IN THE TERRITORY AS POSSIBLE.

MR WONG SAID THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT WAS EMBARKING ON A PUBLICITY AND EDUCATION CAMPAIGN TO PERSUADE
SCHOOLS, SECONDARY PARENTS AND STUDENTS TO CHOOSE THE APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE FOR AND LEARNING FOR THE BENEFIT OF STUDENTS.

SEVENTEEN SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO HAVE READ NEARLY OR MORE THAN 100 BOOKS UNDER THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT'S ENGLISH EXTENSIVE READING SCHEME THIS YEAR WILL RECEIVE THEIR PRIZE AT A PRESENTATION CEREMONY TOMORROW (THURSDAY).
THEY ARE AMONG 98 RECIPIENTS WHO ARE AWARDED EITHER FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN THE INTER-SCHOOL BOOK REPORT COMPETITION OR NAMED "BEST READER" IN A PARTICIPATING SCHOOL.
A SENIOR LECTURER OF THE INSTITUTE OF LANGUAGE IN EDUCATION, MRS VIVIENNE YU, SAID MANY STUDENTS HAVE DEVELOPED A READING HABIT AND MADE PLEASING IMPROVEMENT IN BOTH THE QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF THEIR READING AFTER JOINING THE SCHEME.
