SYSTEMATIC PLANNING AND EVALUATION OF SCHOOLS' PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES AND REPORTING THEIR PERFORMANCE; AND
TO GIVE SCHOOLS MORE FLEXIBILITY IN THE USE OF RESOURCES IN MEETING THEIR DEFINED INDIVIDUAL NEEDS.
THE SPOKESMAN SAID THE SMI WAS FIRST INTRODUCED IN 1991 AND SO FAR 128 SCHOOLS HAD JOINED IN THE SCHEME.
FOR SCHOOLS,
HE SAID THE SMI SCHEME HAD ADVANTAGES PARENTS AND PAST STUDENTS AND CURRENT STUDENTS.
FOR SCHOOLS, IT WILL BE
TEACHERS,
FREE FOR THEM TO CARRY OUT THEIR
MISSION AND TO ADJUST WHAT THEY DO TO MEET THEIR NEEDS.
THE GREATER FLEXIBILITY PROVIDED BY THE BLOCK GRANT WILL MAKE IT EASIER FOR SCHOOLS TO MAKE USE OF THEIR FUNDS ΤΟ PURCHASE EQUIPMENT, SUPPLIES OR SERVICE WHICH MEET THEIR OWN DEFINED NEEDS.
SOME DECISIONS WILL BE BETTER WHEN THEY ARE MADE AT THE SCHOOL LEVEL THAN BY THE GOVERNMENT.

FOR TEACHERS, IT WILL PROVIDE OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM PARTICIPATE IN DECISION-MAKING AND SCHOOL MANAGEMENT, THEREBY FOSTERING JOB SATISFACTION AND COMMITMENT.
GREATER PARTICIPATION IN PROGRAMME PLANNING AND BUDGETING WILL INCREASE LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR MORE TEACHERS.
TEACHERS WILL FEEL BETTER ABOUT THEIR SCHOOL WHEN THEY KNOW THEIR OPINIONS ARE VALUED, SOUGHT AND USED.
FOR PARENTS AND PAST STUDENTS, THE SCHEME WILL INCREASE THEIR UNDERSTANDING, INTEREST AND SUPPORT OF THE SCHOOL.
FOR STUDENTS, RESOURCES ARE MORE LIKELY TO MATCH PUPIL NEEDS WHEN DECISIONS ARE MADE BY THOSE WHO WORK MORE DIRECTLY WITH STUDENTS.
REPLY FORMS HAVE BEEN DISTRIBUTED BY THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT. SCHOOLS INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN THE FOURTH PHASE OF THE SMI ARE INVITED TO SEND THEIR REPLY FORM TO THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT ON OR BEFORE JULY 9
