THE PILOT WAS KILLED AND A PASSENGER WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED AFTER THE HELICOPTER, OWNED AND OPERATED BY HELISERVICES (HONG KONG) LTD, CRASHED ONTO A HILLSLOPE.

AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT, THE HELICOPTER WAS TRANSPORTING PIECE OF HEAVY DRILLING EQUIPMENT WEIGHING 962 KILOGRAMS SLUNG ON 18-METRE CABLE AND CHAIN.

THE REPORT CONCLUDED THAT THE HELICOPTER WAS BEING OPERATED CLOSE TO OR SLIGHTLY ABOVE THE MAXIMUM TOTAL WEIGHT AUTHORISED WAS TRANSITIONED FROM THE HOVER POSITION TO FORWARD FLIGHT IN A DOWNWIND DIRECTION.

THESE FACTORS GAVE RISE TO CONTROL PROBLEMS WHICH HEAVILY LOADED HELICOPTER TO GO OUT OF CONTROL AND CRASH.
