LAND REGISTRY CUSTOMER GROUP HOLDS FIRST MEETING
THE LAND REGISTRY HAS WELCOMED SUGGESTIONS FROM ITS CUSTOMER LIAISON GROUP AT ITS FIRST MEETING TODAY (WEDNESDAY).
ONE SUGGESTION RELATES TO THE PROPOSED SERVICE TIME OF DIRECT ACCESS TO THE COMPUTERISED LAND REGISTER FROM TERMINALS AT CLIENTS' OFFICES. THIS SERVICE IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN IN MID-1994.
THE LAND REGISTRY WOULD CONSIDER THIS SUGGESTION TO ACCOMMODATE CLIENTS' EXPECTATIONS.
THE LAND REGISTRAR, MR KENNETH PANG TSAN-WING, SAID: "THE CUSTOMER LIAISON GROUP IS A USEFUL FORUM FOR A DIRECT EXCHANGE OF VIEWS BETWEEN CUSTOMERS AND THE LAND REGISTRY ON THE SERVICES PROVIDED.

THE MEETING, CHAIRED BY THE REGISTRY MANAGER, MR P Y CHOY, WAS ATTENDED BY 12 REPRESENTATIVES FROM VARIOUS PROFESSIONAL BODIES AND ORGANISATIONS WHICH ARE REGULAR USERS OF THE LAND REGISTRY'S SERVICES.
THEY INCLUDE THE LAW SOCIETY OF HONG KONG, HONG KONG SOCIETY OF ACCOUNTANTS, HONG KONG INSTITUTE OF SURVEYORS, HONG KONG ASSOCIATION BANKS, HONG KONG REAL ESTATE AGENCIES ASSOCIATION LTD AND SOCIETY OF HONG KONG REAL ESTATE AGENTS LTD.

AT THE MEETING, LAND REGISTRY REPRESENTATIVES BRIEFED MEMBERS ON THE REGISTRY'S SERVICES AND PERFORMANCE PLEDGES.

MR CHOY SAID SINCE LAUNCHING ITS PERFORMANCE PLEDGES ON AUGUST LAST YEAR, THE LAND REGISTRY HAD BEEN ABLE TO MEET ITS PERFORMANCE TARGETS AND HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY COMPLAINT ABOUT NON-FULFILMENT OF A PLEDGE.
**THE REGISTRATION OF LAND DOCUMENTS CAN NOW BE COMPLETED WITHIN FIVE WEEKS: A COMPUTER PRINTOUT OR A DIAZO/PHOTOCOPY OF A LAND DOCUMENT PRODUCED WITHIN 30 MINUTES; AND A CERTIFIED COPY OF SUCH DOCUMENTS WITHIN ONE-AND-A-HALF WEEKS," HE NOTED.
MR CHOY SAID AT PEAK TIMES IT WAS NECESSARY FOR THE REGISTRY TO EMPLOY TEMPORARY STAFF OR FOR PERMANENT STAFF TO WORK OVERTIME TO DELIVER THE SERVICES ACCORDING TO THE PLEDGES.
"LAND REGISTRY STAFF ARE ALWAYS CONSCIOUS OF THE NEED TO WORK TO THE PLEDGES, AND THEIR DAILY PERFORMANCE IS CLOSELY MONITORED BY THE MANAGEMENT, HE NOTED.
