EMSD MAKES PERFORMANCE PLEDGE

THE ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT TODAY (SUNDAY) ANNOUNCED ITS PERFORMANCE PLEDGE ON 15 TYPES OF SERVICES THE PUBLIC.

THEY INCLUDE PROCESSING OF APPLICATIONS FOR REGISTRATION ELECTRICAL WORKERS, GAS INSTALLERS AND CONTRACTORS; HANDLING REPORTS OF ILLEGAL EQUIPMENT OR INSTALLATIONS; PROVIDING ADVICE SAFETY MATTERS AND ATTENDING TO GENERAL ENQUIRIES ON GAS, ELECTRICITY, LIFTS AND ESCALATORS.

A SPOKESMAN FOR THE DEPARTMENT EXPLAINED THAT THE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS WERE EXPRESSED AS RESPONSE TIMES.

"THESE ARE THE NUMBERS OF WORKING DAYS WE WILL NORMALLY NEED TO PROCESS AN APPLICATION AND INFORM THE APPLICANT OF THE RESULT.

"FOR REPORTS OF ILLEGAL INSTALLATIONS OR DEFECTS, IT IS THE ON THE TIME WE WILL NEED TO CARRY OUT AN INSPECTION AND TAKE ACTION REPORT," HE EXPLAINED.

CITING PROCESSING APPLICATIONS FOR ENDORSEMENT OF TEST FOR LIFT AND ESCALATOR INSTALLATIONS AS AN EXAMPLE, THE CERTIFICATE SPOKESMAN SAID IT WOULD TAKE 14 DAYS.

PRE- ADVISES THE CALLERS TO CHOOSE FROM A SELECTION VOICE RECORDED MESSAGES BY PRESSING DIGITS ON A TOUCH-TONE TELEPHONE.

THE MESSAGES COVER MAINLY ELECTRICITY AND GAS-RELATED IN AREAS OF REGISTRATION AND CERTIFICATION.
