THE CT9 DESIGNED AT TSING YI OFFERS US THE OPPORTUNITY NOT LOGICALLY, TO OUR STOCK OF TERMINAL BERTHED BACKUP SPACE BUT ALSO TO RELOCATE THE KEY ROADS AT TSING YI FURTHER TO THE SOUTH EAST, INTO THE RECLAMATION AND AWAY FROM RESIDENTIAL AREAS, THIS WILL REDUCE NOISE AND INCONVENIENCE TO TSING YI RESIDENTS.

IT WILL ALSO ENABLE US TO ADD FOUR LANES TO THE EXISTING TWO- LANE TSING YI SOUTH BRIDGE AND PROVIDE A DEDICATED ACCESS TO THE CONTAINER TERMINAL AND ITS BACKUP AREAS.
THESE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE ARE POSSIBLE BECAUSE CT9 DEVELOPMENT IS NOT MERELY A CONTAINER TERMINAL DEVELOPMENT. THE EXTENSIVE BACK-UP AREA WHICH WILL PROVIDE A RESOURCE FOR THE WHOLE OF KHAI CHUNG PORT. IT WILL PROVIDE MUCH NEEDED ADDITIONAL SPACE NOT ONLY FOR CARGO HANDLING, BUT FOR ROADS, FOR PARKING OF VEHICLES AND STACKING OF CONTAINERS. IT WILL ALLEVIATE PRESSURE ELSEWHERE AND SAVE MANY A WASTEFUL JOURNEY BY THOSE CONTAINER VEHICLES NOW OBLIGED TO TRAVEL UP AND DOWN TUEN MỤN HIGHWAY TO DISTANT SITES SIMPLY TO PARK OR STORE CONTAINERS. IN SHORT, FROM A TRANSPORT POINT OF
VIEW, CT9 IS DESIGNED TO ACTUALLY HELP SOLVE SOME OF THE EXISTING PROBLEMS.

DESIGN OF THE PORT, ITS ACCESS ROADS AND SUPPORTING INFRASTRUCTURE IS IN HAND; BUT STATUTORY PROCESSES REMAIN TO BE PUT IN PLACE, DIFFICULTIES IDENTIFIED AND RESOLVED. WE SHALL GO THROUGH FULL. TOWN PLANNING AND RECLAMATION PROCEDURES, THAT IS PUBLIC CONSULTATION, INCLUDING CONSULTATION WITH THE RESIDENTS ON LANTAU.
