PROVIDE ALL THOSE WORKING IN SCHOOL EDUCATION IN HONG WITH A FRAMEWORK FOR PLANNING, CONDUCTING AND EVALUATING THEIR ACTIVITIES;

GIVE PARENTS, STUDENTS, EMPLOYERS AND THE WIDER COMMUNITY CONCISE AND COMPREHENSIVE DESCRIPTION OF WHAT OUR SCHOOLS ARE TRYING TO ACHIEVE; AND

BE A FOCUS FOR PUBLIC DEBATE ABOUT OUR SCHOOLS AND THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS.

"THE BOOKLET IS A REVISION OF THE DRAFT STATEMENT OF AIMS ISSUED BY THE EDUCATION COMMISSION FOR PUBLIC CONSULTATION IN OCTOBER 1992, A SPOKESMAN FOR THE EDUCATION AND MANPOWER BRANCH EXPLAINED.

"DURING CONSULTATION ON THE DRAFT, THE COMMISSION RECEIVED COMMENTS FROM A WIDE RANGE OF EDUCATIONAL BODIES, COMMUNITY AND INTEREST GROUPS, AND INDIVIDUALS.

"MOST WELCOMED THE DRAFT STATEMENT, AND BROADLY AGREED WITH THE APPROACH AND CONTENTS.

"THE COMMISSION REVISED THE STATEMENT OF AIMS IN THE LIGHT OF COMMENTS RECEIVED, AND RECOMMENDED IT ΤΟ THE GOVERNMENT FOR PUBLICATION AS A POLICY DOCUMENT.'

THE STATEMENT OF AIMS COMPRISES A SET OF UNDERLYING PRINCIPLES; A SET OF AIMS RELATING TO THE PROVISION OF SCHOOL PLACES, AND TO THE PROCESSES AND OUTCOMES OF SCHOOL EDUCATION; AN EXPLANATION OF HOW THE BOOKLET CAN BE USED AND MONITORED BY SCHOOLS, THEIR SUPPORT SERVICES AND THE GOVERNMENT; AND A SERIES OF QUESTIONS ON THE EVALUATION OF EDUCATION POLICIES AND ACTIVITIES.

"MANY OF THOSE WHO COMMENTED ON THE DRAFT STATEMENT OF AIMS WANTED MORE DETAILS ABOUT MONITORING AND EVALUATION PROCEDURES," THE SPOKESMAN SAID.

"THE REVISED BOOKLET HAS A GREATLY EXPANDED SECTION ON 'THE AIMS IN USE'.

"ALSO, THE BOARD OF EDUCATION HAS AGREED TO HELP IN DEVELOPING WAYS TO OBTAIN FEEDBACK ON HOW WELL SCHOOLS AND THEIR SUPPORT SERVICES ARE IMPLEMENTING THE AIMS, HE ADDED.

ONE WAY WILL BE TO SURVEY THE PERCEPTIONS OF THOSE MOST CLOSELY CONCERNED WITH SCHOOL EDUCATION, SUCH AS STUDENTS, TEACHERS, EMPLOYERS, AND INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION.
