THE OPERATING EXPENSES AND COMPENSATION OF EMPLOYEES INCURRED TRANSPORT ESTABLISHMENTS IN 1991 ACCOUNTED FOR 71.3% AND 14. 4% THE BUSINESS RECEIPTS RESPECTIVELY.

COMPARED WITH 1990, THE SHARE OF OPERATING EXPENSES IN BUSINESS RECEIPTS DECREASED BY 3.4 PERCENTAGE POINTS WHILE THAT OF COMPENSATION OF EMPLOYEES INCREASED BY 1.3 PERCENTAGE POINTS.
THE SURVEY RESULTS SHOWED THAT SOME 39,000 TRANSPORT ESTABLISHMENTS WERE IN OPERATION IN 1991, AN INCREASE OF 10%

IN 1991, SERVICES INCIDENTAL ΤΟ TRANSPORT, SUCH ESTABLISHMENTS ENGAGED IN AIR/SEA CARGO FORWARDING, PACKING CRATING GOODS FOR TRANSPORTATION, TRAVEL AGENCIES AND SHIPBROKERS, HAD THE LARGEST SHARE OF BUSINESS RECEIPTS, ACCOUNTING FOR 43% OF THE SECTOR'S TOTAL.
THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY AIR TRANSPORT (20%); OCEAN AND COASTAL WATER TRANSPORT (12%); LAND PASSENGER TRANSPORT (10%); LAND FREIGHT TRANSPORT (7%); SUPPORTING SERVICES TO WATER TRANSPORT (5%); INLAND WATER TRANSPORT (2%) AND SUPPORTING SERVICES TO LAND TRANSPORT (1%).
ON THE OTHER HAND, IN TERMS OF VALUE ADDED, AIR TRANSPORT CONTRIBUTED THE LARGEST PORTION, ACCOUNTING FOR 25% OF THE TOTAL VALUE ADDED OF THE SECTOR, FOLLOWED BY LAND PASSENGER TRANSPORT (22%), OCEAN AND COASTAL WATER TRANSPORT (18%); SERVICES INCIDENTAL TO TRANSPORT (12%); LAND) FREIGHT TRANSPORT (11%); SUPPORTING SERVICES то WATER TRANSPORT (6%); JNLAND WATER TRANSPORT (3%) AND SUPPORTING SERVICES TO LAND TRANSPORT (2%).
IN TERMS OF BUSINESS RECEIPTS, SUPPORTING SERVICES то LAND TRANSPORT RECORDED THE LARGEST INCREASE OVER 1990 (13%). THE INCREASE WAS MAINLY A RESULT OF THE CONTINUED PRIVATISATION OF A NUMBER OF CAR PARKS AND VEHICULAR TUNNELS (E.G. THE ABERDEEN TUNNEL WAS
SEPTEMBER 1991) WHICH WERE FORMERLY OPERATED BY THE

THE OPENING OF THE TATE'S CAIRN TUNNEL IN JUNE CONTRIBUTED TO THE INCREASE. IN ADDITION, LAND PASSENGER TRANSPORT AND LAND FREIGHT TRANSPORT REGISTERED LARGE INCREASES IN GREW BY 12%.

ON THE OTHER HAND, BOTH OCEAN AND COASTAL WATER TRANSPORT SERVICES INCIDENTAL TO TRANSPORT RECORDED DECREASES IN BUSINESS RECEIPTS.
THE DECREASE IN OCBAN AND COASTAL WATER TRANSPORT (-15%) WAS RESULTED FROM THE SHRINKAGE IN THE BUSINESS OF SHIP OWNERS/OPERATORS OF SEA-GOING VESSELS, WHEREAS THE DECLINE IN SERVICES INCIDENTAL TO TRANSPORT (-3%) WAS MAINLY DUE TO THE STAGNANT BUSINESS OF TRAVEL AGENCIES AFFECTED BY THE WORLDWIDE RCONOMIC RECESSION.
