THE BUILDING AUTHORITY TODAY (WEDNESDAY) DECLARED THE BUILDING AT 150 SAN HING BACK STREET ON CHEUNG CHAU TO BE DANGEROUS AND 149 THE SAME STREET LIABLE TO BECOME DANGEROUS.

THE BUILDINGS ARE TWO-STOREY STRUCTURES WITH TIMBER FLOOR ROOF ON LOADBEARING BRICK AND MASONRY WALLS.
AND
THE BUILDING AT 150 HAS A CONCRETE BALCONY AT ITS FRONT AND SIDE PARTS ON THE FIRST FLOOR, WHILE THE BUILDING AT 149 HAS A SMALL TWO-STOREY KITCHEN ANNEX AT THE SIDE. THE KITCHEN ANNEX HAS CONCRETE FLOOR AND ROOF ON LOADBEARING WALLS.
THE STRUCTURE AT 150 IS GENERALLY
IN A VERY DILAPIDATED
CONDITION. THE CONCRETE COLUMNS SUPPORTING THE BALCONY AND PART OF THE BALCONY FRONTING SAN HING BACK STREET HAVE SEVERE CRACKS.
THE ROLLED STEEL JOISTS PROVIDING ADDITIONAL SUPPORT ΤΟ THE FRONT BALCONY OVER SAN HING BACK STREET ARE ALSO IN A VERY DILAPIDATED CONDITION.
IN
ADDITION, CRACKS ARE FOUND IN THE LOADBEARING WALL AND THE ROOF TILES, WITH THE FRONT PORTION OF THE ROOF APPEARING TO BE SAGGING.
AS THERE IS A DISTINCT DANGER OF THE BALCONY COLLAPSING, AND IN ORDER TO SAFEGUARD THE SAFETY OF THE OCCUPANTS AND THE PUBLIC USING THE NARROW PUBLIC ACCESS, THE BUILDING SHOULD BE CLOSED AND
DEMOLISHED.
