EMPLOYEES MUST BE INSURED
THE LABOUR DEPARTMENT TODAY (SATURDAY) REMINDED ALL EMPLOYERS OF THE REQUIREMENT TO TAKE OUT INSURANCE POLICIES FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES UNDER THE EMPLOYEES' COMPENSATION ORDINANCE.
FOR
THE REMINDER FOLLOWED A RECENT CASE AT THE EASTERN MAGISTRACY IN WHICH HOP HING PRINTING COMPANY IN ABERDEEN WAS FINED $2,000 FAILING TO PRODUCE A VALID INSURANCE POLICY FOR ITS EMPLOYEE.
THE OFFENCE WAS DETECTED BY LABOUR INSPECTORS DURING A ROUTINE VISIT TO THE COMPANY, WHICH EMPLOYED ONE WORKER.

INSURED EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO DISPLAY, IN A CONSPICUOUS PLACE OF THE WORKPLACE, A NOTICE SHOWING THE NAME OF THE EMPLOYER AND THE NAME OF THE INSURER, MR SUNG SAID.

"OTHER DETAILS SHOULD INCLUDE THE POLICY NUMBER, THE DATE OF ISSUE OF THE POLICY AND THE COMMENCEMENT AND EXPIRY DATES OF THE INSURANCE PERIOD," HE SAID.
"THE NOTICE SHOULD ALSO INCLUDE THE NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES AND THE EXTENT OF THE LIABILITY INSURED," HE ADDED.
"THE MAXIMUM PENALTY FOR THE OFFENCE IS A FINE OF $20,000 AND IMPRISONMENT FOR ONE YEAR, MR SUNG SAID.

THE OPTICAL GOODS INDUSTRY HAS ATTAINED A VERY IMPRESSIVE ACHIEVEMENT WITH PRODUCTIVITY RISING AT AN AVERAGE ANNUAL RATE OF 19 PER CENT BETWEEN 1986 AND 1990, THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF INDUSTRY, MR RICKY FUNG, SAID TONIGHT (SATURDAY).

SPEAKING AT THE EIGHTH INAUGURATION CEREMONY OF THE HONG KONG OPTICAL MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION, MR FUNG SAID OVER THE PAST DECADE, THE OPTICAL GOODS INDUSTRY HAD TRANSFERRED MANY OF ITS REPETITIVE AND ASSEMBLY-ORIENTED PROCESSES TO SOUTHERN CHINA, IN SHENZHEN AND DONGGUAN.
