A REPUTED DISCIPLINED SERVICE

TO HAVE A

STAFF OF THE FIRE SERVICES DEPARTMENT ARE REQUIRED HIGH LEVEL OF TECHNICAL COMPETENCE, INITIATIVE AND DEVOTION TO DUTY.

THIS WAS STATED BY DEPUTY CHIEF FIRE OFFICER (HEADQUARTERS), MR LAM CHUN-MAN, TODAY (TUESDAY),

HAD

ADDRESSING A PASSING-OUT PARADE OF 12 SENIOR FIREMEN/FIREWOMEN IN THE CONTROL STREAM, MR LAM SAID THESE STANDARDS AND TRADITIONS EARNED THE DEPARTMENT A FIRST-CLASS REPUTATION BOTH IN HONG KONG AND ABROAD.

THE RECRUITS, WHO

INITIAL

HAD JUST COMPLETED A 12-WEEK TRAINING, WILL BE POSTED TO THE COMMUNICATION (CONTROL) CENTRE WHICH OPERATES A ROUND-THE-CLOCK SERVICE.

MR LAM TOLD THEM THAT AS A CONTROL STAFF, THEY WOULD BE THE FIRST TO RECEIVE THE CALLS FOR HELP TO FIRES, ACCIDENTS, AND OTHER DISASTERS.

"YOUR ACCURACY AND EFFICIENCY IN COMMUNICATION, DECISION-MAKING AND SUBSEQUENT MOBILISING OF RESOURCES ARE VITAL FACTORS THROUGH WHICH THE DEPARTMENT CAN MAINTAIN AN EFFICIENT SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY, HE SAID.

HE REMINDED THE GRADUATES THAT THEY NEED ΤΟ HAVE A STRONG SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY AND A MIND CAPABLE OF WITHSTANDING WORKING PRESSURE, AND HOPED THEY WOULD SKILFULLY APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE AND TECHNIQUE LEARNED FROM THEIR TRAINING IN DISCHARGE OF THEIR DUTY.

IN THE FIRST EIGHT MONTHS OF THIS YEAR, CONTROL STAFF ANSWERED A TOTAL OF 17,180 FIRE CALLS, 11,598 SPECIAL SERVICE 286,977 AMBULANCE CALLS.
