THAT THE BURIAL GRANT BE BROUGHT INTO LINE WITH THAT PAYABLE UNDER THE EMPLOYEES' COMPENSATION ORDINANCE (ECO); AND

THAT THE DISCRETIONARY ENHANCEMENT OF GRANTS UNDER THE CRIMINAL AND LAW ENFORCEMENT INJURIES COMPENSATION SCHEME BE EXTENDED TO COVER VICTIMS OF RAPE AND CASES OF FIGHTING CRIME IN WHICH THE VICTIM, SUBSEQUENT TO THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO A CLAIM FOR COMPENSATION, HAS MADE EXEMPLARY EFFORTS, IN THE FACE OF PERSONAL EMBARRASSMENT, INCONVENIENCE OR DANGER, TO ASSIST THE POLICE IN THE ARREST OR THE PROSECUTION OF AN OFFENDER OR SUSPECTED OFFENDER.

"THE BASES FOR THE CALCULATION OF THE DEATH AND PERSONAL INJURY GRANTS WERE LAST REVISED IN DECEMBER 1981, THE SPOKESMAN NOTED.

DETAILS OF THE REVISED DEATH AND PERSONAL INJURY GRANT PAYMENT SCHEME SCHEDULE UNDER THE THREE SCHEMES ARE SHOWN AS BELOW:

TO MEET ADDITIONAL OUTGOINGS (MEDICAL CHARGES, SPECIAL OR TONIC FOOD, TRAVELLING EXPENSES AND SO ON) ON A SHORTER-TERM THAN DISABILITY GRANT, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE INJURED PERSON IS A WAGE-EARNER.

INTERIM MAINTENANCE GRANT

TO RELIEVE THE IMMEDIATE HARDSHIP CAUSED BY LOSS OF WAGE, IN THE CASE OF A WAGE-EARNER, OR TO MEET ADDITIONAL OUTGOINGS (FOR EXAMPLE HOME-HELPING OR CHILD-MINDING EXPENSES) IN THE CASE OF A NON- WAGE-EARNING PARENT WHERE THERE ARE CHILDREN UNDER 15.

$297 FOR EACH OF THE FIRST 10 DAYS SICK LEAVE AND $127 PER DAY THEREAFTER UP TO 170 DAYS (MAKING A TOTAL OF 180 DAYS OF SICK LEAVE), SUBJECT TO A MAXIMUM OF $24,560. INJURY GRANT SHOULD CEASE FROM THE DATE ON WHICH THE VICTIM BECOMES ELIGIBLE FOR THE DISABILITY GRANT, OR UPON THE DEATH OF THE VICTIM.

AT THE RATE OF $4,240 PER MONTH UP TO SIX MONTHS (ONE MONTH IS REGARDED AS 30 DAYS) (BASED ON THE AVERAGE MONTHLY WAGE, PLUS FRINGE BENEFITS, FOR A MANUFACTURING WORKER). PAYMENT OF THIS GRANT CEASES UPON THE DEATH OF THE VICTIM.
