THE PROPERTY MARKET IN THE FIRST HALF OF THIS YEAR BOTH IN THE AND RENTAL FIELD CAN BE REGARDED AS STABLE FOLLOWING REMARKABLE RECOVERY IN THE SECOND HALF OF LAST YEAR.

THE MARKET FOR SMALL TO MEDIUM SIZED RESIDENTIAL FLATS (BELOW 100 SQUARE METRES) WAS ACTIVE WITH PRICES GENERALLY HIGHER THAN THE PEAK ACHIEVED DURING THE SAME PERIOD IN 1989.

THE MARKET FOR LARGER FLATS (OVER 100 SQUARE METRES) WAS RELATIVELY QUIET WITH FEW PROJECTS BEING RELEASED.

SUPPLY OF NEW OFFICE SPACE DURING THE FIRST HALF OF 1990 REACHED 101,000 SQUARE METRES, REPRESENTING A 31 PER CENT INCREASE OVER THE SAME PERIOD LAST YEAR.

ALTHOUGH ADVERTISED RENTALS HAD NOT DROPPED SIGNIFICANTLY, NEGOTIATED RENTALS HAD FALLEN WELL BELOW ADVERTISED LEVELS WITH UP TO SIX MONTHS' RENT-FREE PERIODS OFFERED.
