THE CENSUS AND STATISTICS DEPARTMENT TODAY RESULTS OF THE 1988 SURVEY OF BUILDING,
(FRIDAY) RELEASED CONSTRUCTION AND REAL
ESTATE SECTORS WHICH WAS CONDUCTED FROM APRIL 1989 TO EARLY 1990.
THE SURVEY RESULTS INDICATED ESTABLISHMENTS HAD OPERATED IN 1988.
THAT 10,672 CONSTRUCTION
THE GROSS VALUE OF CONSTRUCTION ESTABLISHMENTS
WORK PERFORMED DURING 1988 AMOUNTED TO $69,267 MILLION, AN INCREASE OF 24 PER CENT OVER THE CORRESPONDING VALUE IN 1987.

AND SUB-CONTRACTORS; CONSUMPTION OF MATERIALS, SUPPLIES, AND MAINTENANCE SERVICES;
$19,384 MILLION ON MILLION ON SUB-CONTRACT WORK RENDERED BY
$27,474 $3,767 MILLION ON MISCELLANEOUS OPERATING EXPENSES.
FEE SUB-CONTRACTORS; AND
THE
AT $19,926 MILLION, THE TOTAL ESTABLISHMENTS
VALUE ADDED WHICH IS A MEASURE OF CONTRIBUTION

THE SURVEY DID NOT COVER LABOUR-ONLY SUB-CONTRACTORS WHO MAINLY SUPPLIED LABOUR TO WORK ON A JOB-TO-JOB BASIS. VALUE
HOWEVER, OF CONSTRUCTION WORK PERFORMED BY
THE GROSS ALREADY INCLUDED IN THAT OF CONTRACTORS COMMISSIONING THEIR SERVICES.
