CONSUMER DURABLES OTHER THAN MOTOR VEHICLES AND PARTS DROPPED BY 6 PER CENT IN SALES VALUE AND 8 PER CENT IN SALES VOLUME.
WHEN COMPARED WITH FEBRUARY 1990, AND BEARING IN MIND THAT THIS COMPARISON MAY BE AFFECTED BY SEASONAL FACTORS, TOTAL RETAIL SALES FOR MARCH 1990 INCREASED BY 6 PER CFNT IN VALUE AND 5 PER CENT IN VOLUME.
FUELS ROSE BY 25 PER CENT IN SALES VALUE AND 19 PER CENT IN SALES VOLUME. FOODSTUFFS, ALCOHOLIC DRINKS AND TOBACCO INCREASED BY
16 PER CENT IN SALES VALUE AND 14 PER CENT IN SALES VOLUME.
ON THE SAME BASIS OF COMPARISON, CONSUMER DURABLES DECREASED BY 1 PER CENT IN BOTH SALES VALUE AND VOLUME. CLOTHING, FOOTWEAR AND ALLIED PRODUCTS FELL BY 4 PER CENT IN SALES VALUE AND 6 PER CENT IN SALES VOLUME.
RETAIL SALES OF OTHER CONSUMER GOODS INCREASED BY 6 PER CENT IN VALUE AND 5 PER CENT IN VOLUME.
SUPERMARKET
ANALYSED BY SELECTED TRADES,
SALES INCREASED BY 29 PER CENT IN VALUE AND 27 PER CENT IN VOLUME. SALES OF CONSUMER DURABLES OTHER THAN MOTOR VEHICLES AND PARTS INCREASED BY 5 PER CENT IN VALUE AND 4 PER CENT IN VOLUME.
HOWEVER, MOTOR VEHICLES AND PARTS DECREASED BY 8 PER CENT IN SALES VALUE AND 9 PER CENT IN SALES VOLUME, WHILE THE CORRESPONDING DECREASES FOR DEPARTMENT STORES WERE 8 PER CENT AND 10 PER CENT.
