RECOMMENDATIONS MADE ON DISCIPLINED SERVICES' SALARIES.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
THE STANDING COMMITTEE ON DISCIPLINED SERVICES SALARIES AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE ANNOUNCED TODAY TUESDAY) THAT IT HAD MADE A NUMBER OF RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE GOVERNOR CONCERNING THE SALARIES AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE OF THE DISCIPLINED SERVICES.
THE STANDING COMMITTEE WAS APPOINTED IN FEBRUARY THIS YEAR BY THE GOVERNOR. FOLLOWING THE ACCEPTANCE BY GOVERNMENT OF THE FINAL REPORT BY THE REVIEW COMMITTEE ON DISCIPLINED SERVICES PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE (THE RENNIE COMMITTEE).
AMONG ISSUES WHICH THE STANDING COMMITTEE WAS ASKED ΤΟ CONSIDER AS A MATTER OF PRIORITY WERE DRIVING AND DIVING ALLOWANCES, THE QUESTION OF PAY GROUPINGS WITHIN THE GENERAL DISCIPLINED SERVICES AND PARITY IN PAY FOR FIREMEN AND AMBULANCEMEN.
WHEN IT WAS FIRST ESTABLISHED IN FEBRUARY THIS YEAR, THE STANDING COMMITTEE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SALARIES AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE OF THE CORRECTIONAL SERVICES. CUSTOMS AND EXCISE, FIRE SERVICES AND IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENTS AND THE ROYAL HONG KONG POLICE FORCE.
SINCE THEN, THE STANDING COMMITTEE HAS
ASKED TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR ADVISING ON THE SALARIES AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE FOR THE INDEPENDENT COMMISSION AGAINST CORRUPTION (ICAC) AND THE ROYAL HONG KONG AUXILIARY AIR FORCE (RHKAAF).
WHILST THE ICAC HAS ALREADY BEEN GIVEN ITS OWN PAY SCALE, THE STANDING COMMITTEE HAS BEEN ASKED TO ADVISE ON THE SALARY SCALES FOR THE RHKAAF.
ADDITONALLY, THE STANDING COMMITTEE HAS ADVISED ON TWO SPECIFIC 18SUES PUT FORWARD BY THE FIRE SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT.
THE STANDING COMMITTEE POINTED OUT THAT IT HAD BEEN DEALING WITH THESE ISSUES IN ACCORDANCE WITH A WORK PROGRAMME WHICH IT HAD AGREED WITH THE DISCIPLINED SERVICES IN APRIL.
STAFF ASSOCIATIONS HAD BEEN INFORMED OF THE PROGRAMME. BUT. GIVEN THE CONCERN OF SOME ABOUT ALLOWANCES AND PARITY. THE STANDING COMMITTEE HAD MADE IT CLEAR IN APRIL THAT THESE ISSUES WOULD BE DEALT WITH BY MID-JULY,
TO DATE ALL OF THE DEADLINES SET OUT IN THE WORK PROGRAMME HAVE BEEN MET OR BETTERED. THE STANDING COMMITTRE WISHED TO THANK ALL CONCERNED FOR THEIR HELP IN MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO ADHERE то THE PROGRAMME AND LOOKED FORWARD TO THEIR CONTINUED SUPPORT.
