THE COMMITTEE ON THE

PROMOTION OF

CIVIC EDUCATION WAS ESTABLISHED IN MAY 1986 ΤΟ ADVISE THE GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITY ORGANISATIONS ON THE OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE OF CIVIC EDUCATION OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL SYSTEM.

IT ALSO ENCOURAGES COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION AND ASSISTS PROMOTION OF CIVIC AWARENESS AND GOOD CITIZENSHIP.

IN THE

THE COMMITTEE IS CHAIRED BY DR DANIEL TSE. OTHER MEMBERS ON THE COMMITTEE ARE MR POON KAI-TIK. MR JUSTEIN C. WONG AND MR YEUNG

KWOK-HUNG.

STUDENTS TO ACQUIRE EXPERIENCE IN WORK

MORE THAN 1,300 SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS WILL TAKE PART IN A WORK ORIENTATION PROGRAMME NEXT MONTH.

THE EVENT IS PART OF A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMME ORGANISED BY THE CAREERS ADVISORY SERVICE OF THE LABOUR DEPARTMENT TO HELP STUDENTS ACQUIRE FIRST-HAND INFORMATION ON VARIOUS SPECIALISED FIELD OF WORK.

'THROUGH VISITS TO DIFFERENT ESTABLISHMENTS, IT IS STUDENTS WOULD BE ABLE TO GAIN A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND THE IMPORTANCE OF CHOOSING A SUITED TO THEIR POTENTIAL," A DEPARTMENT SPOKESMAN SAID.

THE PROGRAMME, WHICH BEGINS ON THURSDAY (MAY 4) AND LASTS UNTIL MAY 29, INCLUDES 50 VISITS TO 41 ESTABLISHMENTS BY STUDENTS FROM SCHOOLS IN TUEN MUN, SHA TIN, TSUEN WAN, YAU MA TEI, CENTRAL, WESTERN AND ISLANDS.

"THE VISITS WILL COVER VARIOUS ESTABLISHMENTS IN THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS INCLUDING HOTELS,

BANKS, NEWSPAPERS, TELEVISION STATIONS, FACTORIES, CONTAINER TERMINALS, AIRLINE COMPANIES, PUBLIC UTILITIES COMPANIES AND TRAINING INSTITUTES, THE SPOKESMAN SAID.

"DURING THE VISITS, SPECIALLY ASSIGNED PERSONNEL OF BACH ESTABLISHMENT WILL EXPLAIN THEIR ORGANISATION, SCOPE OF WORK, EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS AND DEVELOPMENT PLANS, AND ANSWER QUESTIONS

"THIS SHOULD ASSIST THEM IN DEVELOPING A MORE REALISTIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD OF WORK AND FACILITATE THEIR EVENTUAL TRANSITION FROM SCHOOL TO WORK.
