LABOUR HOTLINES PROVIDE PROMPT SERVICES

OF THE FACTORY INSPECTORATE AND WOMEN AND YOUNG PERSONS DIVISIONS RESPECTIVELY. AUTO-RECORDING FACILITY IS ALSO INSTALLED TO CATER AFTER-OFFICE-HOUR CALLS.

FOR

A LABOUR DEPARTMENT SPOKESMAN SAID THE FACTORY INSPECTORATE HOTLINE WAS ORIGINALLY SET UP FOR REPORTING INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENTS.

ITS SERVICE WAS LATER EXTENDED TO COVER COMPLAINTS ON UNSAFE WORKING CONDITIONS AND PROVIDE ADVICE ON ANY INDUSTRIAL SAFELY MATTERS.

THE SPOKESMAN SAID EMPLOYEES WERE BECOMING INCREASINGLY AWARE OF THE HOTLINE SERVICE AND OVER 6,000 CALLS WERE RECEIVED LAST YEAR COVERING A WIDE RANGE OF SAFETY MATTERS.

OF THESE, 124 CALLS WERE COMPLAINTS RELATING то NUISANCES CAUSED BY INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES, FIRE RISKS AND CONSTRUCTION SAFETY.

THE WOMEN AND YOUNG PERSONS DIVISION'S HOTLINE RECEIVED JUST OVER 900 COMPLAINTS LAST YEAR INVOLVING LONG WORKING HOURS, PROVISION OF REST DAYS, CHILD EMPLOYMENT, SHORTENED MEAL BREAK, AND OF TWO-WAY PERMIT HOLDERS AND ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.

THE SPOKESMAN SAID ALL COMPLAINTS RECEIVED WOULD INVESTIGATED PROMPTLY AND THOROUGHLY.

TO FACILITATE FOLLOW-UP ACTION, HE URGED THE PUBLIC TO STATE CLEARLY THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE ESTABLISHMENT AGAINST WHICH THE COMPLAINT IS DIRECTED, THE NATURE OF THE COMPLAINT AND WHERE POSSIBLE, THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE COMPLAINANT.

EVERY COMPLAINT WILL BE HANDLED IN THE STRICTEST HE STRESSED.
