CS VISITS SHAU KEI WAN FOOTHILLS HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS

THE PUBLIC HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS IN THE SHAU KEI WAN EAST AND WEST FOOTHILLS WILL ULTIMATELY PROVIDE MORE THAN 10,300 HOMES FOR NEARLY 40,000 PEOPLE WHEN COMPLETED IN MID-1995.
THE TWO SITES ARE AMONG THE SEVEN IN THE URBAN AREA IDENTIFIED IN 1984 FOR SUPPLEMENTARY PUBLIC HOUSING TO MEET THE URGENT DEMAND FOR FLATS IN THE URBAN AREA UNDER THE HOUSING AUTHORITY'S PUBLIC HOUSING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME.
THIS WAS TOLD TO THE CHIEF SECRETARY, SIR DAVID FORD, THIS AFTERNOON DURING HIS VISIT TO THE SHAU KEJ WAN DISTRICT TO BE BRIEFED ON THE LATEST SQUATTER CLEARANCES AND PUBLIC HOUSING DEVELOPMENT.
ON ARRIVAL AT A VANTAGE POINT OVERLOOKING THE SHAU ΚΕΙ WAN EAST PUBLIC HOUSING SITE, SIR DAVID WAS DRIEFED BY THE MANAGER (CLEARANCE), MR CHENG HON-BIU ON THE EXTENSIVE REHOUSING WORK OF THE SITE INVOLVING MORE THAN 11, 000 3,400 FAMILIES.

INTRODUCING THE BACKGROUND OF THE SHAU PUBLIC HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS, THE CHIEF ARCHITECT PROJECTS, MR WARREN TU SAID THE DEVELOPMENTS WERE THE "DIFFICULT" TYPF OF URBAN AREA SITES THAT THE MUST DEVELOP TO FILL THE REQUISITE THAT PEOPLE WILL THEY WANT TO LIVE.
