NEW SCOREBOARD SYSTEM FOR HK STADIUM

SYSTEM

A MUCH LARGER COMPUTER-CONTROLLED ELECTRONIC SCOREBOARD WILL BE INSTALLED AT THE HONG KONG STADIUM то REPLACE THE EXISTING MECHANICAL CLOCK DISPLAY WHICH HAS BEEN IN USE FOR OVER 30 YEARS.

WORK HAS BEGUN FOLLOWING THE RECENT AWARD OF A $5.2 MILLION CONTRACT FOR 'THE SUPPLY AND INSTALLATION OF THE SOPHISTICATED MULTI-FUNCTION SYSTEM BY THE ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT.

IT IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED BEFORE FEBRUARY 15 NEXT YEAR.

EMSD ELECTRONICS ENGINEER, MR Y.W. TSANG, SAID THE NEW DISPLAY BOARD WOULD MEASURE 15 METRES WIDE BY EIGHT METRES HIGH. "IT WILL CONSIST OF AN ANALOGUE REAL TIME CLOCK, A 15-MINUTE SOCCER CLOCK, A DIGITAL GAME CLOCK, AND A 112 BY 160 DOTS DISPLAY MATRIX, HE SAID.

"IT CAN DISPLAY BOTH CHINESE CHARACTERS AND ENGLISH SOCCER SCORES, TIMING AND SCORES FOR TRACK AND FIELD EVENTS.

IT CAN ALSO PERMIT SIMPLE ANIMATION AND GRAPHIC DISPLAY FOR PRESENTING ANNOUNCEMENTS AND ADVERTISEMENT.

MR TSANG ADDED THAT INSTEAD OF USING CONVENTIONAL INCANDESCENT LAMPS AS DISPLAY ELEMENTS, THE DISPLAY BOARD WOULD EMPLOY REFLECTIVE DISPLAY ELEMENTS A NEW DISPLAY TECHNOLOGY WITH MAJOR ADVANTAGES LOWER POWER CONSUMPTION, LONGER LIFETIME AND WIDER VIEWING ANGLE.

THE GOVERNMENT INTENDS TO CONSTRUCT DOLPHINS FOR THE NEW SHAU KEI WAN TYPHOON SHELTER TO PROVIDE CONTROL OVER 'THE MOORING AND MOVEMENT OF VESSELS WITHIN THE SHELTER.
