THE TRAINING COURSE HAS BEEN INDEPENDENTLY EVALUATED BY A SEPARATE AUTHORITY, THE TORONTO TRANSIT CONSULTANTS (TTC). THE DRIVERS HAVE BERN TESTED AND CERTIFIED BY MTC9 AND SEPARATELY BXAMINED BY A TTO IXAMINER.
THE FOUR-WEEK TRAINING COURSE INCLUDES NINE DAYS IN THE CLASSROOM ON THE PRINCIPLES OF THE LRT SYSTEM AND THE VEHICLES, RULE BOOK AND ROAD REGULATIONS AND THE THEORY OF OPERATION OF TRAFFIC LIGHTS, AND 15 DAYS OF PRACTICAL DRIVING ON THE ROAD, INCLUDING DEFENSIVE DRIVING TRAINING.
DURING THE PERIOD IN WHICH THE LRV PRACTICE RUNS SUSPENDED, THE DRIVERS HAVE BEEN GIVEN ADDITIONAL TRAINING OF OBSERved weaknESS TO REINFORCE THEIR DRIVING SKILLS.

ON THE RECOMMENDATION BY MR COOKSEY TO REPOSITION THE SECONDARY TRAFFIC SIGNALS AT PING HA ROAD, GOVERNMENT CONCERNED HAVE CARRIED OUT AN ON-SITE INSPECTION.

TEMPORARY MODIFICATIONS ΤΟ THE SIGNALS WILL RE COMPLETED WITHIN A WEEK. PERMANENT MODIFICATIONS WILL BE COMPLETED AS SOON POSSIBLE. THESE WILL REQUIRE THE WIDENING OF THE CENTRAL DIVIDER.
INSPECTION WILL BE CARRIED OUT ON THE OTHER ROAD JUNCTIONS WHERE SIMILAR LAYOUTS EXIST. MODIFICATION WORKS, IF REQUIRED, WOULD BE CARRIED OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
THE SECONDARY TRAFFIC SIGNALS ARE SIGNALS ERECTED ON THE FAR SIDE OF A ROAD JUNCTION TO ASSIST MOTORISTS ΤΟ SEE THE LIGHTS IF THEIR VIEW OF THE PRIMARY SIGNALS TS BLOCKED. PRIMARY SIGNALS ARE
THOSE LOCATED AT THE "STOP" LINE AT THE JUNCTIONS.
MR MAK POINTED OUT THAT THE TRAFFIC SIGNALS IN THE LET TRANSIT JERVICE AREA, INCLUDING THOSE CURRENTLY USED AT THE PING HA ROAD JUNCTION, ARE DESIGNED TO THE SAME FULL SAFETY STANDARDS CURRENTLY APPLICABLE TO ALL ROAD JUNCTIONS THROUGHOUT THE TERRITORY.
ON THE RECOMMENDATION THAT MORE EFFORTS BE MADE TO PUBLICISR MAJOR CHANGES TO ROAD JUNCTIONS, MR MAK NOTED THAT THE GOVERNMENT ALL ALONG HAD BEEN WORKING JOINTLY WITH THE KCRC ON A CO-ORDINATED PUBLICITY PROGRAMME TO PROMOTE SAFE USE OF THE LRT SYSTEM.
A COMMITTEE, COMPRISING REPRESENTATIVES FROM GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS AND KCRC, HAS BERN SPECIFICALLY SET UP ΤΟ DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT PUBLICITY EFFORTS AIMED
