THE RESIDENTS NOW TAKE GREAT PRIDE IN THEIR IMPROVED LIVING ENVIRONMENT, AND ARE THANKFUL TO THE BUILDING MANAGEMENT CO-ORDINATION TEAM (BMCT) OF THE MONG KOK DISTRICT OFFICE FOR ITS ASSISTANCE IN PLANNING THE RENOVATION.

THE BUILDINGS AND LANDS DEPARTMENT NOTIFIED FLAT OWNERS IN MID-1986 THAT THEIR BUILDING WAS ON THE VERGE OF BEING DECLARED DANGEROUS, AND THAT REPAIRS WERE REQUIRED.

REPAIR WORK WOULD INVOLVE CEMENT RENDERING AND PLASTERING, REPLACING SPALLING CONCRETE, REPAIRING DEFECTIVE WINDOW FRAMES AND GLASS PANES, AND RECTIFYING LEAKING PIPEWORK, DEFECTIVE BALUSTRADES AND CONCRETE CURBS.

UPON RECEIVING THE NOTICE, THE BUILDING'S OWNERS WROTE TO OWNERS TO SEEK THEIR VIEWS ON THE REQUIRED HOWEVER, ONLY ABOUT 90 OUT OF THE 350 OWNERS OF THE DOMESTIC UNITS RESPONDED.

THE OWNERS WERE APPALLED BY THE CONDITION OF THE BUILDING AND AGREED UNANIMOUSLY AT THE MEETING TO GO AHEAD WITH THE REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE WORK.

A WORKING GROUP WAS SET UP. APART FROM MEMBERS OF THE OWNERS INCORPORATION, OTHER OWNERS WERE ALSO INVITED TO JOIN IN. MR CHONG AND A LIAISON OFFICER OF THE DISTRICT OFFICE WERE ALSO INCLUDED TO GIVE PROFESSIONAL ADVICE.
