PLAN TO IMPROVE LAM KAM ROAD PROPOSED
GOVERNMENT PROPOSES TO
AND
IMPLEMENT STAGE II OF A SCHEME TO IMPROVE SECTIONS OF LAM KAM ROAD ΤΟ ENHANCE BOTH VEHICULAR PEDESTRIAN SAFETY.
THIS STAGE OF THE WORK WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN TWO PHASES, THE FIRST OF WHICH WILL BE IMPROVEMENTS TO SECTIONS BETWEEN THE LAM KAM ROAD INTERCHANGE AND CHAI KEK, AND BETWEEN PAK NGAU SHEK AND KADOORIE FARM.

THE WORK WILL COMPRISE REALIGNING AND WIDENING THE CARRIAGEWAY TO 7.3 METRES WITH THE PROVISION OF A CLIMBING LANE BETWEEN PAK SHEK AND KADOORIE FARM.

OTHER IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDE PROVISION OF TWO-METRE FOOTPATHS, PEDESTRIAN REFUGES AND LAY-BYS, CONSTRUCTION OF THE ROAD BRIDGE OVER LAM TSUEN RIVER ΤΟ REPLACE THE EXISTING ONE, AND CONSTRUCTION OF ASSOCIATED SLOPE WORKS, DRAINAGE AND LANDSCAPING
WORKS.
ALL EXISTING ACCESS POINTS TO AND FROM THE ROAD WILL BR MAINTAINED. DUE TO THE STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE OF THE ROAD, THE IMPROVEMENT WORK WILL BE PLANNED TO MAINTAIN TWO-WAY TRAFFIC DURING CONSTRUCTION, EXCEPT FOR ALTERNATIVE ONE-WAY WORKING AT LIMITED SECTIONS OF THE ROAD.
A NOTICE ON THE PROPOSED WORK WAS PUBLISHED IN THE GOVERNMENT GAZETTE TODAY (FRIDAY).
WRITTEN OBJECTIONS TO THE WORK MUST REACH THE SECRETARY FOR TRANSPORT BEFORE DECEMBER 15.
LAM KAM ROAD IS AN IMPORTANT LINK BETWEEN TAI PO AND YUEN LONG. WITH THE OPENING OF THE TOLO HIGHWAY IN SEPTEMBER 1985, THERE HAS BEEN AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES USING THE ROAD AS A THROUGH ROUTE TO AND FROM THE NORTH-WEST NEW TERRITORIES.
AS THE EXISTING ROAD IS SUB-STANDARD, IT IS NECESSARY TO IMPROVE IT FOR THE SAKE OF SAFETY.
STAGE I OF THE IMPROVEMENT WORK WAS COMPLETED LAST YEAR WHEN SECTIONS BETWEEN CHAI KEK AND PAK NGAU SHEK AND BETWEEN KADOORIE FARM AND NAM SHEUNG TIN WERE IMPROVED. STAGE II WILL COVER THE REMAINING SECTIONS OF THE ROAD.
