THE BUILDING SUFFERED FROM POOR SANITARY CONDITIONS, DILAPIDATION OF CONCRETE STRUCTURES AND PLASTERS, BROKEN UNDERGROUND SEWERS, CHOKED MANHOLES AND BLOCKED FIRE EXITS.
THE TEAM HELPED THE OWNERS' CORPORATION OF THE BUILDING TO MOBILISE OWNERS AND CO-ORDINATE GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS' EFFÖRTS TO BRING ABOUT CHANGES.
· IN FIVE MONTHS, MARKED IMPROVEMENTS WERE BROUGHT ABOUT WHICH INCLUDED THE REPLACEMENT OF DEFECTIVE SEWERS, CLEARANCE OF CHOKED MANHOLES, AND RESURFACING OF REAR AND SIDE LANES.
MEMBERS SAW THE BUILDING WAS WHITE-WASHED AND THAT BLOCKAGES AND OBSTRUCTIONS, WHICH HAD TAKEN UP COMMUNAL AREAS AND FIRE ESCAPE ROUTES, HAD BEEN REMOVED.
OLD LETTER BOXES WERE REPLACED WITH ALUMINIUM ONES TO ENSURE MAIL SECURITY.
APART FROM VISIBLE CHANGES, MEMBERS LEARNED THAT THE TEAM HAD ALSO HELPED UPGRADE VARIOUS ASPECTS OF BUILDING MANAGEMENTS, LIKE SUPERVISING OF CARETAKER'S DUTIES, ADVISING ON THE PROPER WAY TO COLLECT MANAGEMENT FEES.
+WE ARE VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE HARD WORK OF THE TEAM AND SIMILARLY PLEASED WITH THE CO-OPERATION OF THE OWNERS' CORPORATION, DISTRICT BOARD CHAIRMAN, MR CHOW CHUN-FAI, SAID DURING THE VISIT.
+WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO URGE MORE BUILDING MANAGEMENT BODIES TO JOIN THE TEAM TO ENSURE A MORE HEALTHY AND PLEASANT LIVING ENVIRONMENT IN THE DISTRICT, HE SAID.
THE TEAM WOULD CONTINUE TO WORK ON OTHER PROBLEMS OF THE BUILDING UNTIL MOST DEFECTS WERE RECTIFIED.
INITIALLY THE TEAM HAVE SELECTED 16 BUILDINGS IN THE DISTRICT FOR IMPROVEMENT. THE DISTRICT BOARD ADDED ANOTHER 23 BUILDINGS AS TARGETS FOR IMPROVEMENT AT A MEETING EARLIER THIS MONTH.
