1985.

THE TOTAL NUMBER OF +LIVE+ PATENTS RE-REGISTERED WAS APPROXIMATELY 12 000.

EPCOM EDUCATION WORKING GROUP RECOMMENDATIONS REVIEWED

THE ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION ADVISORY COMMITTEE AT A MEETING TODAY (MONDAY) REVIEWED THE PROGRESS MADE SO FAR TO IMPLEMENT THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE EPCOM ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION WORKING GROUP WHICH WERE ENDORSED BY EPCOM IN NOVEMBER 1985.

THE COMMITTEE NOTED THAT THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT WILL CONSIDER BROADENING THE SENIOR SECONDARY CURRICULUM BY INCORPORATING ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES INTO THE GENERAL STUDIES PROGRAMME. HEADS OF SCHOOLS WILL BE CONSULTED SOON,

IT WAS ALSO NOTED THAT THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT HAS IDENTIFIED A NUMBER OF SUITABLE LOCATIONS FOR SETTING UP ADDITIONAL FIELD STUDIES CENTRES. THE FIRST OF THESE CENTRES WILL BE ESTABLISHED IN 1989-1990.

AS RECOMMENDED BY THE WORKING GROUP, THE CHAI WAN TECHNICAL INSTITUTE WILL OFFER COURSES IN ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES IN SEPTEMBER 1987 WHICH WILL TRAIN STUDENTS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION WORK TO MEET THE NEEDS OF INDUSTRY AND THE COMMUNITY.

EPCOM ALSO LEARNED THAT THE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG, THE CITY POLYTECHNIC OF HONG KONG AND THE HONG KONG POLYTECHNIC HAVE SUBMITTED PROPOSALS TO THE UNIVERSITY AND POLYTECHNIC GRANTS COMMITTEE (UPGC) FOR INTRODUCING DEGREE AND HIGHER DIPLOMA COURSES ON ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES DURING THE 1988-91 TRIENNIUM.

ON THE RECOMMENDATION OF EPCOM, THE HONG KONG PRODUCTIVITY COUNCIL WILL ORGANISE A NUMBER OF TRAINING PROGRAMMES DEVELOPED BY THE INTERNATIONAL LABOUR OFFICE IN GENEVA FOR SENIOR STAFF IN INDUSTRY IN 1987. THE FIRST OF THESE SEMINARS WILL FORM PART OF THE PROGRAMME FOR COMMEMORATING THE WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 1987.
