THE UPWARD TREND WAS DUE TO MORE COMPLAINTS ABOUT PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES, TRAFFIC CONDITIONS, ROAD MAINTENANCE AND TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT, SAID THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY OF THE TCU, MR MOHAMMED RUMJAHN.
COMPLAINTS ABOUT PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES REMAINED THE LARGEST SINGLE GROUP OF COMPLAINTS HANDLED BY THE TCU, CONSTITUTING SLIGHTLY MORE THAN 40 PER CENT OF ALL COMPLAINTS RECEIVED.
REGARDING THE ADEQUACY OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES, 302 COMPLAINTS WERE RECEIVED. THESE WERE MAINLY GENERATED BY AN INCREASE IN DEMAND FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES IN NEWLY COMPLETED HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS.
COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE INADEQUACY OF BUS SERVICE WERE MOSTLY MADE BY COMMUTERS IN THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT, QUARRY BAY, CHAI WAN, TIN HAU TEMPLE ROAD AREAS AND THE WESTERN DISTRICT ON HONG KONG ISLAND, AND BY THOSE IN KWUN TONG, SHA TIN, TAI PO, TUEN MUN AND KWAI TSING DISTRICTS IN KOWLOON AND THE NEW TERRITORIES.
+COMPLAINTS ABOUT INADEQUACY OF SERVICE WERE REFERRED TO THE TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT FOR CONSIDERATION AS THE SUBJECTS OF COMPLAINT INCLUDE FREQUENCY CARRYING CAPACITY, ROUTING, HOURS OF OPERATION AND PROVISION OF STOPS, MR RUMJAHN EXPLAINED.
COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THE STANDARD OF SERVICE OF THE VARIOUS MODES OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT MADE UP 477 CASES OR APPROXIMATELY 60 PER CENT OF THE CASES INVOLVING PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES.
+THESE COMPLAINTS WERE TAKEN UP INDIVIDUALLY WITH THE TRANSPORT OPERATORS CONCERNED OR WITH THE RELEVANT AUTHORITIES (TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT CONCERNING IRREGULARITIES IN GREEN MINIBUS SERVICES AND THE POLICE IN RESPECT OF TAXI MALPRACTICES),+ MR RUMJAHN SAID.
THE STANDARD OF SERVICE OF THE TWO FRANCHISED BUS COMPANIES WAS THE SUBJECT OF 228 COMPLAINTS. BUSES NOT KEEPING TO SCHEDULED FREQUENCY AND BUS DRIVERS - BUS CAPTAINS FAILING TO PICK UP - SET DOWN PASSENGERS ATTRACTED THE MAJORITY OF THESE COMPLAINTS.
COMPLAINTS ABOUT ERRATIC BUS SERVICE ON HONG KONG ISLAND WERE MAINLY DIRECTED AT BUS ROUTES SERVING THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT. IN KOWLOON AND THE NEW TERRITORIES, COMPLAINTS ABOUT BUSES NOT KEEPING TO SCHEDULED FREQUENCY WERE MAINLY LEVELLED AGAINST BUS ROUTES SERVING KWUN TONG AND SHA TIN DISTRICTS AND THE WESTERN PART OF THE NEW TERRITORIES.
TURNING TO GREEN MINIBUS SERVICES, MR RUMJAHN POINTED OUT THAT THE MAJOR AREAS OF COMPLAINTS WERE NON-ADHERENCE TO SCHEDULED FREQUENCY - ROUTING AND CONDUCT AND PERFORMANCE OF DRIVERS.
