MR BARNES POINTED OUT THAT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WAS LIKELY TO HAVE A BACKGROUND AS A SENIOR EXECUTIVE IN A MAJOR COMMERCIAL ORGANISATION WITH KNOWLEDGE OF HONG KONG, HE MUST BE A CREATIVE AND EXPERIENCED EXECUTIVE, ABLE TO LEAD AND MANAGE A TEAM OF HIGHLY QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL AND SUPPORT STAFF.

THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE WOULD BE A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF THE CORPORATION AS WELL AS BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR RAISING FINANCE AND IMPLEMENTING DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE AIMS OF THE CORPORATION.

PRE-1981 PRIVATE CARS MUST BE TESTED

PRIVATE CARS MANUFACTURED BEFORE 1981 WHICH REQUIRE A NEW LICENCE COMMENCING ON OR AFTER APRIL 1 NEXT YEAR MUST PASS A ROADWORTHINESS TEST PRIOR TO LICENCE RENEWAL, THE TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCED TODAY (TUESDAY).

THIS MEANS THAT OWNERS OF PRE-1981 PRIVATE CARS MUST FIRST OBTAIN A CERTIFICATE OF ROADWORTHINESS FROM A GOVERNMENT-DESIGNATED CAR TESTING CENTRE BEFORE THE LICENCE OF THEIR VEHICLES CAN BE RENEWED BY THE LICENSING OFFICE. THERE ARE 17 DESIGNATED CAR TESTING CENTRES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE HARBOUR.

THE REQUIREMENT FOR SIX-YEAR OLD PRIVATE CARS TO BE INSPECTED UNDER THE PRIVATE CAR INSPECTION SCHEME CAME INTO EFFECT ON JANUARY 2 THIS YEAR, STARTING WITH PRE-1980 CARS. UP TO SEPTEMBER, 17 756 VEHICLES HAD BEEN INSPECTED, WITH ABOUT 8 840 CARS PASSING THE ROADWORTHINESS TEST ON FIRST INSPECTION.

+WITH THE APPROACH OF 1987, IT IS ONLY NATURAL THAT PRE-1981 CARS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE INSPECTION SCHEME,+ A DEPARTMENT SPOKESMAN SAID.

HE EXPLAINED THAT THE CERTIFICATE OF ROADWORTHINESS FOR ANY PRIVATE CAR WHICH HAS PASSED THE TEST MUST BE PRESENTED TO THE DEPARTMENT WITHIN FOUR MONTHS OF THE ISSUE DATE FOR RELICENSING A VEHICLE, OTHERWISE ITS VALIDITY WILL LAPSE.
