SEARCHES IN THE LAND OFFICE DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE CURRENT FINANCIAL YEAR BY MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC REACHED A RECORD 637 477, UP BY 20 PER CENT AND 22.6 PER CENT RESPECTIVELY COMPARED WITH THE FIRST AND SECOND HALVES OF 1985-86.
MR GLEESON POINTED OUT THAT OF THE EIGHT NEW TERRITORIES DISTRICT LAND REGISTRIES, FIVE HAVE BEEN TAKEN OVER BY THE REGISTRAR GENERAL'S DEPARTMENT. IT IS INTENDED THAT THE DEPARTMENT WILL TAKE OVER THE REMAINING THREE REGISTRIES ISLANDS, TAI PO AND NORTH -- AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
DURING THE FIRST HALF OF 1986-87, THE FIVE NEW TERRITORIES DISTRICT LAND REGISTRIES OPERATED BY THE DEPARTMENT REGISTERED A TOTAL OF 70 296 INSTRUMENTS.
THIS FIGURE INCLUDED 12 603 SALE AND PURCHASE AGREEMENTS OF FLATS, 18 761 ASSIGNMENTS OF FLATS, 1 442 ASSIGNMENTS OF LOTS AND SECTIONS, 23 BUILDING MORTGAGES, 20 598 OTHER MORTGAGES AND 8 094 MORTGAGEE'S RECEIPTS, REASSIGNMENTS AND CERTIFICATES OF SATISFACTION.
THESE HAD A TOTAL VALUE OF CONSIDERATIONS OF $5.629 BILLION, $5.835 BILLION, $0.884 BILLION, $1.041 BILLION, $5.266 BILLION, AND $2.586 BILLION RESPECTIVELY.
