DURING THE FIRST HALF OF 1986-87, 40 391 ASSIGNMENTS OF UNITS IN COMPLETED BUILDINGS, THE MAJORITY RESIDENTIAL, WERE REGISTERED. THIS COMPARED WITH 39 467 AND 36 435 IN THE FIRST AND SECOND HALVES OF 1985-86, SHOWING INCREASES OF 2.3 PER CENT AND 10.9 PER CENT RESPECTIVELY.

THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF CONSIDERATIONS IN ASSIGNMENTS OF FLATS ALSO INCREASED, TO $24.250 BILLION. THIS WAS AN INCREASE OF 51.4 PER CENT FROM $16.012 BILLION IN THE FIRST HALF OF 1985-86 AND OF 40.1 PER CENT FROM $17.315 BILLION THE SECOND HALF.

A TOTAL OF 6 223 ASSIGNMENTS OF FLATS WERE COMPLETED BY THE REGISTRAR GENERAL'S DEPARTMENT ON BEHALF OF THE HOUSING AUTHORITY UNDER THE GOVERNMENT'S HOME OWNERSHIP SCHEME, COMPARED WITH 4 147 AND 7 268 RESPECTIVELY IN THE FIRST AND SECOND HALVES OF 1985-86, SHOWING CONTINUED GOOD PROGRESS IN THIS AREA.

THERE WERE 318 ASSIGNMENTS OF LOTS AND SECTIONS. THIS WAS 9.3 PER CENT MORE AND 14.1 PER CENT LESS RESPECTIVELY THAN IN THE FIRST AND SECOND HALVES OF 1985-86.

THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF CONSIDERATIONS IN THESE ASSIGNMENTS INCREASED BY 5.4 PER CENT FROM $4,011 BILLION IN THE FIRST HALF OF 1985-86 AND DECREASED BY 81.8 PER CENT FROM $23.273 BILLION IN THE SECOND HALF, TO $4.229 BILLION.

TWENTY-FIVE BUILDING MORTGAGES AND 38 806 OTHER MORTGAGES WERE REGISTERED DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE CURRENT FINANCIAL YEAR.

THIS COMPARED WITH 37 AND 34 411 RESPECTIVELY IN THE FIRST HALF OF 1985-86 AND WITH 23 AND 34 239 IN THE SECOND HALF.

THE TOTAL AMOUNT SECURED UNDER BUILDING MORTGAGE REGISTERED DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE CURRENT FINANCIAL YEAR WAS $0.476 BILLION. THIS WAS A DECLINE OF 29.9 PER CENT FROM $0.679 BILLION IN THE FIRST HALF OF 1985-86 AND OF 10.2 PER CENT FROM $0.53 BILLION IN THE SECOND HALF.

THE AMOUNT SECURED UNDER MORTGAGES OTHER THAN BUILDING MORTGAGES, HOWEVER, ROSE BY 33.2 PER CENT FROM $13.108 BILLION IN THE FIRST HALF AND BY 22.7 PER CENT FROM $14.233 BILLION IN THE SECOND HALF OF 1985-86, TO $17.457 BILLION.

REPAYMENTS UNDER MORTGAGES OF ALL KINDS, AS EVIDENCED BY DISCHARGES AND MORTGAGEE'S RECEIPTS, WERE DOWN BY 3.7 PER CENT FROM $11.619 BILLION IN THE FIRST HALF AND BY 14.7 PER CENT FROM $13.102 BILLION IN THE SECOND HALF OF 1985-86, TO $11.19 BILLION.
