Speech by

HRH The Duke of Elinburgh

on October 22, 1986 at the

formal opening of the

Castle Peak "B" Power Station, Hong Kong

Lord Kadoorie, Mr. Clancy, Ladies and Gentleman,

The construction of the largest power complex in South East

Asia has obviously been a massive undertaking, and I congratulate everyone who have contributed to its successful completion. It is the sort of intemational success story that we have come to expect from Hong Kong.

The combined efforts of the giant American ESSO Company and the British engineering firms of Baboook and GEC, together with the China Light and Power Company have resulted in this immense project being finished well ahead of schedule.

If such a project and Hong Kong itself for that matter is a

measure of what can be achieved by Anglo-Chinese and international cooperation, I believe it bodes very well for the future of Hong Kong

and the whole of South China.

It gives me the greatest pleasure to declare that the Castle Peak "B" Power Station is complete and in action,
