A BOARD SPOKESMAN SAID THE APPLICANTS HAD EMPLOYED A FIRM OF DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT CONSULTANTS FROM THE UNITED STATES AND
AS WERE MEMBERS WERE SATISFIED WITH THE IR ASSESSMENT REPORT THE DIRECTOR OF FIRE SERVICES, THE GAS SAFETY OFFICER AND THE DIRECTOR OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION DEPARTMENT.
THE SPOKESMAN NOTED THAT A PETITION BY A LOCAL CONCERN GROUP TO THE UMELCO OFFICE IN RESPECT OF HAZARDOUS INDUSTRIES WHICH MAY BE LOCATED ON TSING YI ISLAND WAS AWAITING A REPLY.
HE SAID THE BOARD HAD ADVISED THAT THE REPLY, WHICH WOULD INCLUDE MATERIAL ON THE CRC APPLICATION, SHOULD ALSO BE MADE AVAILABLE TO KWAI CHUNG AND TSING YI DISTRICT BOARD AND OTHER INTERESTED PARTIES.
AFTER THE HOUR-LONG DISCUSSION, THE MEMBERS CONCLUDED THAT THERE SHOULD BE NO OBJECTION TO THE CRC APPLICATION ON SAFETY GROUNDS AS THE RISK WAS NEGLIGIBLE, BEING 0.035 TO A MILLION.

1986 FOOD HYGIENE CAMPAIGN TO BE LAUNCHED ON MONDAY

THIS YEAR'S MONTH-LONG FOOD HYGIENE CAMPAIGN WILL BE OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED ON MONDAY (JULY 14) BY THE CHAIRMAN OF THE FOOD HYGIENE SELECT COMMITTEE OF THE URBAN COUNCIL. MISS CECILIA YEUNG, AND THE CHAIRMAN OF THE REGIONAL COUNCIL'S ENVIRONMENTAL HYGIENE SELECT COMMITTEE, DR PANG HOK-TUEN.
THE TERRITORY-WIDE HEALTH EDUCATION FUNCTION IS JOINTLY ORGANISED BY THE TWO COUNCILS AND THE MUNICIPAL SERVICES BRANCH, AND THE THEME FOR THIS YEAR'S CAMPAIGN IS +HONG KONG FOOD LAWS AND MANAGEMENT OF FOOD PREMISES.+
IN AN EFFORT TO FURTHER EDUCATE PEOPLE IN THE FOOD TRADE ON THE IMPORTANCE OF FOOD SAFETY, A SERIES OF 30 FOOD HYGIENE SEMINARS WILL BE CONDUCTED AT 18 CONVENIENTLY LOCATED CENTRES THROUGHOUT THE URBAN AREA AND THE NEW TERRITORIES. SOME 15 000 INVITATION LETTERS HAVE BEEN ISSUED TO LICENSEES OF FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS.
THE SEMINARS WILL COVER SUCH TOPICS AS THE OBJECTIVES OF FOOD LAWS, THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FOOD LAWS AND THE FOOD TRADE, THE LAWS THAT GOVERN AND REGULATE THE OPERATION OF FOOD BUSINESSES IN HONG KONG, POSSIBLE STEPS TO BE TAKEN TO AVOID CONTRAVENTION OF FOOD LAWS AND THE CONSEQUENCES OF VIOLATING FOOD LAWS.
