ACCORDING TO THE REPORT. NO RAPID EXPANSION OF CROSS HARBOUR BUS SERVICES IS REQUIRED EITHER BEFORE OR AFTER THE OPENING OF THE EHC. MEMBERS ENDORSED THE CHAPTS RECOMMENDATION THAT CROSS HARBOUR BUSES SHOULD ADOPT A GRADUAL AND LIMITED EXPANSION PROGRAMME AND THAT A NUMBER OF NEW RAIL AND FERRY FEEDER SERVICES SHOULD BE INTRODUCED.

FOR FERRY SERVICES TAC MEMBERS CONSIDERED THE PROJECTED IMPACT OF THE EHC ON FERRY SERVICES AND THE FINANCIAL AND OPERATING CONDITIONS OF THE TWO FERRY OPERATORS.

MEMBERS ALSO AGREED WITH THE REPORT THAT HYF'S CROSS HARBOUR NETWORK SHOULD BE RATIONALISED AND NOTED THAT HYF SHOULD HAVE A GOOD CHANCE OF IMPROVING ITS FINANCIAL HEALTH IF IT TOOK REMEDIAL ACTION NOW.

FOR THE POST-EHC PERIOD, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT FREQUENCY REDUCTIONS SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED FOR THE HYF ROUTES IN THE EASTERN HARBOUR.

AFTER THE PRELIMINARY DISCUSSION, THE PAPER WILL BE FURTHER CONSIDERED IN THE NEXT TAC MEETING.

ALSO AT TODAY'S MEETING, MEMBERS NOTED A ROAD SAFETY STRATEGY PAPER PREPARED BY THE ROAD SAFETY COUNCIL FOR THE YEAR 1986. THE PAPER SERVED AS A BASIS FOR REVIEWING PAST PROGRESS AND SETTING FUTURE TARGETS IN THE FIELD OF ROAD SAFETY.

DIVERSION SCHEME INTRODUCED FOR FLYOVER RECONSTRUCTION

A MAJOR TRAFFIC DIVERSION SCHEME WILL BE INTRODUCED FROM THURSDAY (JUNE 26) TO COINCIDE WITH THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE PRINCESS MARGARET ROAD FLYOVER.

THIS WAS ANNOUNCED BY SENIOR ENGINEER OF THE TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT'S TRAFFIC ENGINEERING KOWLOON DIVISION, MR LAM HON- KIT, AT A PRESS CONFERENCE TODAY (TUESDAY).

+THE RECONSTRUCTION, WHICH IS EXPECTED TO TAKE THREE YEARS TO COMPLETE, WILL PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL TRAFFIC LANE ON THE FLYOVER WHICH IS REACHING SATURATION LEVEL,+ HE SAID.

TO MINIMISE DISRUPTION, THE TRAFFIC DIVERSION SCHEME WILL BE IMPLEMENTED IN THREE STAGES. STAGE I WILL BE INTRODUCED WITH THE START OF THE RECONSTRUCTION WHILE STAGE I WILL BE IMPLEMENTED ABOUT SIX WEEKS AND STAGE 111 TWO MONTHS LATER.
