THE FIRE SERVICES DEPARTMENT HAS URGED PARENTS NOT TO LEAVE THEIR CHILDREN UNATTENDED AT HOME BEHIND LOCKED DOORS.

THE APPEAL FOLLOWED AN INCIDENT ON SUNDAY, APRIL 13, SHUN LEE ESTATE, KWUN TONG, IN WHICH A FIRE BROKE OUT IN A FLAT WHERE A GIRL OF SIX WAS LEFT LOCKED IN WHILE ALL ADULTS WERE OUT. FIREMEN RESCUED THE GIRL AFTER FORCING THEIR WAY INTO THE PREMISES.
+LOCKED DOORS WOULD DELAY OUR ENTRY TO THE SCENE OF A FIRE AT A TIME WHEN LIFE OR DEATH WOULD HINGE ON SECONDS GAINED OR LOST, + A SPOKESMAN FOR THE DEPARTMENT SAID.
ABOUT 50 PER CENT OF ALL FIRE VICTIMS ARE KILLED BY FIRES
IN THEIR OWN HOMES, THE SPOKESMAN NOTED.
