NORTH POINT BUILDINGS IMPROVED FOR RESIDENTS

RESIDENTS OF TWO BUILDINGS IN NORTH POINT NOW HAVE A BETTER ENVIRONMENT TO LIVE IN, THANKS TO THE EFFORTS OF THE EASTERN DISTRICT BUILDING MANAGEMENT CO-ORDINATION TEAM.
DEFECTIVE FIRE FIGHTING INSTALLATIONS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND OBSTRUCTIONS REMOVED FROM THE NAM TIN BUILDING AND EMPIRE BUILDING THROUGH EFFORTS OF THE TEAM AND WITH THE CO-OPERATION OF THE OWNERS CORPORATIONS OF THE TWO BUILDINGS.
THE HOUSING MANAGER OF THE BUILDING MANAGEMENT CO-ORDINATION TEAM, MR LIN KA-TIN, SAID THE TWO BUILDINGS WERE BUILT IN THE 1960S AND NOW HAD A TOTAL OF ABOUT 1 000 RESIDENTS IN 167 DOMESTIC UNITS.
+THEY WERE AMONG THE 30 BUILDINGS CHOSEN BY THE TEAM FOR IMPROVING THE ENVIRONMENT, HE SAID.
+WHEN WE INSPECTED NAM TIN BUILDING, THE FIRE FIGHTING INSTALLATIONS WERE TOTALLY NOT OPERABLE, WITH THE FIRE HOSE REELS ON ALL 19 FLOORS OF THE BUILDING AND FIRE PUMP ON THE ROOF HAVING DETERIORATED TO AN UNSERVICABLE STATE, HE ADDED.
+THE FIRE SERVICES DEPARTMENT HAS PROVIDED VALUABLE ASSISTANCE AND ADVICE IN HELPING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEMS, AND AFTER SEVERAL WORKING SEMINARS ARRANGED FOR THE OWNERS CORPORATIONS BY THE TEAM, THE DEFECTIVE FIRE FIGHTING INSTALLATIONS WERE REPLACED, HE SAID.
THE BUILDING'S LIGHT WELL, WHICH WAS UNHYGENIC AND FILLED WITH REFUSE, HAD BEEN CLEANED UP AND WAS NOW PROPERLY MAINTAINED,
+ IN THE EMPIRE BUILDING, THE SITUATION WAS SIMILAR, WITH MORE THAN 90 PER CENT OF THE SMOKE DOORS BADLY DAMAGED OR DEFECTIVE. FOLLOWING THE ADVICE OF THE FIRE SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND OUR TEAM, THE BUILDING'S OWNERS CORPORATION REPLACED THE DAMAGED SMOKE DOORS, SAID MR LIN,
THE OWNERS CORPORATION ALSO REPLACED MANY OF THE WORN OUT WINDOW PANES ALONG THE CORRIDORS AND AT STAIRCASES.
THE RECENT IMPROVEMENTS ARE JUST SOME OF THE MANY EXAMPLES OF THE CONTINUOUS EFFORT OF THE BUILDING MANAGEMENT CO-ORDINATION TEAM, WHICH WAS SET UP UNDER THE EASTERN DISTRICT OFFICE IN MAY.
THE TEAM ADVISES RESIDENTS AND LOCAL ORGANISATIONS ON HOW TO DEAL WITH ENVIRONMENTAL AND MANAGEMENT PROBLEMS IN PRIVATE BUILDINGS.
TO DATE, ABOUT 30 BUILDINGS FOUND TO HAVE VARIOUS PROBLEMS, HAVE BEEN INSPECTED BY THE TEAM,
+ON THE TEAM'S ADVICE AND ASSISTANCE, CLEANSING AND REPAIR WORKS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT ON MANY OF THESE BUILDINGS TO PROVIDE A SAFER AND HEALTHIER PLACE FOR RESIDENTS,+ MR LIN SAID.
