WITH MORE RECLAMATIONS, THE AREA OF THE PRESENT HARBOUR WOULD DECLINE AND TO COMPENSATE FOR THIS THE POSSIBILITY WAS BEING CONSIDERED OF BUILDING A BREAKWATER BETWEEN PENG CHAU AND KAU YI CHAU TO PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL SHELTERED ANCHORAGE.
ON OTHER AREAS OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE INFRASTRUCTURE, MR CHAN SAID WORK CONTINUED ON THE MAJOR SCHEME TO BRING MORE WATER FROM CHINA TO MEET THE FUTURE THIRST OF HONG KONG. NEW SEWAGE TREATMENT WORKS, SCREENING PLANTS AND OUTFALLS WERE PLANNED WITH A VIEW TO IMPROVING THE WATER QUALITY IN VICTORIA AND TOLO HARBOURS.
