SECOND PUBLIC HOUSING ESTATE FOR JUNK BAY

ANOTHER PUBLIC HOUSING PROJECT WILL BE GETTING OFF THE GROUND IN JUNK BAY FOLLOWING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A $157.3 MILLION TENDER AV THE HOUSING AUTHORITY'S BUILDING COMMITTEE AT ITS LAST MEETING.

+CONSTRUCTION WILL START SOON ON THE FIRST PHASE OF TSUI LAM ESTATE, THE SECOND PUBLIC HOUSING DEVELOPMENT IN THE BUDDING NEW TOWN, A SPOKESMAN FOR THE HOUSING AUTHORITY SAID TODAY.

HE SAID WORK WOULD INCLUDE THE BUILDING OF TWO 35-STOREY TRIDENT AND TWO 22-STOREY SLAB BLOCKS, A COMMUNITY HALL AND A

40-STOREY CARPARK, AS WELL AS ELEVATED WALKWAYS AND AN INTERNAL ESTATE ROAD.

+ THE FOUR RESIDENTIAL BLOCKS WILL HAVE ALTOGETHER 2 460 FLATS FOR ABOUT 10 800 PEOPLE IN 1987.

+COVERING A 15.6-HECTARE SITE IN THE NORTH-WESTERN PART OF JUNK BAY NEW TOWN TSUI LAM ESTATE WILL BE DEVELOPED IN THREE PHASES OVER THE NEXT FOUR YEARS WITH ALTOGETHER EIGHT RENTAL AND THREE HOME OWNERSHIP SCHEME BLOCKS.

+UPON FULL COMPLETION BY 1989, THE ESTATE WILL HAVE A POPULATION OF 26 000 PEOPLE IN 4 984 RENTAL AND 1 050 HOS FLATS, WELL SERVED BY WIDE-RANGING COMMERCIAL AND COMMUNITY FACILITIES.+

MEANWHILE, WORK IS WELL UNDERWAY ON THE FIRST PUBLIC HOUSING PROJECT IN THE NEW TOWN, PO LAM ESTATE, WHICH IS BEING BUILT IN THREE PHASES AND WILL PROVIDE MODERN ACCOMMODATION FOR ANOTHER 28 800 PEOPLE BY 1988.

24 000 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED FOR FOUR PSPS PROJECTS

SALES OF THE 4 120 FLATS UNDER PHASE VIIB OF THE HOME OWNERSHIP SCHEME HAVE ATTRACTED MORE THAN 24 000 APPLICATIONS BY THE DEADLINE OF 7 PM TODAY.

+OF THEM, ABOUT 20 000 ARE FROM WHITE-FORM PRIVATE SECTOR APPLICANTS AND 4 000 FROM VARIOUS CATEGORIES OF GREEN-FORM APPLICANTS, SAID A SPOKESMAN FOR THE HOUSING AUTHORITY TODAY.
