AT A PRESENTATION CEREMONY AT KO SHAN THEATRE, THE DIRECTOR OF NEW TERRITORIES SERVICES, MR MICHAEL SUEN, SAID A TOTAL OF 390 MOTOR DRIVERS AND SPECIAL DRIVERS OF THE NTSD HAD BEEN QUALIFIED FOR THESE CERTIFICATES.

WHILE COMMENDING THE DRIVERS, MR SUEN ALSO REMINDED THEM OF THE DRIVING OFFENCE POINTS SYSTEM INTRODUCED BY THE GOVERNMENT LAST YEAR TO PENALISE DRIVERS WHO FAILED TO OBSERVE ROAD SAFETY REGULATIONS.

HE SAID THAT FAILING TO STOP AT A RED TRAFFIC SIGNAL COULD COST A DRIVER THREE POINTS AND RECKLESS DRIVING 10 POINTS, WITH 15 OR MORE POINTS INCURRED WITHIN A TWO-YEAR PERIOD, A DRIVER COULD HAVE HIS LICENCE SUSPENDED.

PRESENTING PITMAN TYPEWRITING EXAMINATION CERTIFICATES TO TEN GIRLS, MRS GARNER TOLD THEM THAT THEIR RESULTS TESTIFIED TO THE HIGH STANDARD OF STUDY THEY PUT IN AND THE HIGH STANDARD OF TUTORIAL WORK, PROVIDED BY THE INSTITUTION.

BEING A TEACHER HERSELF, MRS GARNER STRESSED THE NEED FOR TEAM WORK BETWEEN PUPIL AND TEACHER TO ACHIEVE GOOD RESULTS. WAY IN WHICH THEY RESPONDED TO THE OPPORTUNITY GIVEN TO THEM TO MPROVE THEMSELVES SHOULD BE MADE KNOWN TO THE PUBLIC,

FIVE OF THEM HAD BEEN DISCHARGED AND WERE UNDER AFTER-CARE SUPERVISION, WHILE THE OTHERS WERE PURSUING THEIR STUDIES OF INTERMEDIATE TYPEWRITING AND ENGLISH FOR PUBLIC EXAMINATIONS,
