FOOD HYGIENE SEMINAR IN SHA TIN

FOOD ESTABLISHMENT OPERATORS IN SHA TIN SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT THE IR PATRONS FROM FOOD-BORNE DISEASES.
THIS CALL WAS MADE BY THE URBAN SERVICES OFFICER OF SHA TIN, MR NG YING-NEEN, AT A FOOD HYGIENE SEMINAR HELD AT ME SHING RESTAURANT IN MEI LAM ESTATE TODAY (SATURDAY).
THE MOST EFFECTIVE MEASURES WERE TO ENSURE CLEANLINESS IN THE PREPARATION AND HANDLING OF FOOD, MR NG SAID.
THE SEMINAR WAS ORGANISED BY THE NEW TERRITORIES SERVICES DEPARTMENT WITH THE AIM OF IMPROVING THE HYGIENE STANDARD OF FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS IN THE DISTRICT.
MORE THAN 40 LICENSEES OR MANAGERS OF RESTAURANTS IN SHA TIN TOOK PART IN THE SEMINAR.
COPIES OF AN INFORMATION LEAFLET ON PROPER FOOD HANDLING PROCEDURE, PUBLISHED RECENTLY BY THE HEALTH EDUCATION UNIT OF THE NTSD, WERE DISTRIBUTED TO THE ATTENDANTS.
MR NG SAID THAT NTSD HEALTH INSPECTORS MAKE REGULAR CHECKS AT ALL LICENSED FOOD PREMISES TO ENSURE THAT ACCEPTABLE HYGIENE STANDARDS ARE MAINTAINED.
NEW LOOK FOR WOMEN OFFICERS ****
ALL WOMEN OFFICERS OF THE CORRECTIONAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT HAVE A NEW LOOK TODAY AS THEY HAVE STARTED WEARING A NEW TYPE OF UNIFORM HAT.
THE CHANGE WAS FIRST SEEN BY THE DEPUTY COMMANDER BRITISH FORCES AND CHIEF-OF-STAFF, BRIGADIER ANTHONY CROWFOOT, WHO WAS THE INSPECTING OFFICER AT A PASSING-OUT PARADE OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES RECRUIT OFFICERS THIS (SATURDAY) MORNING.
THE NEW NAVY-BLUE BOWLER-TYPE HAT, WITH A NAVY-BLUE AND WHITE CHEQUERED BAND, IS MADE OF MOULDED PLASTIC COVERED WITH FELT. IT HAS A SOFT BRIM AND A CHIN STRAP WHICH CAN BE WORN OR TUCKED UP INTO THE CROWN,
THE BOWLER HAT PROVIDES BETTER PROTECTION AND IS MORE DURABLE THAN THE ORIGINAL PATROLLER-TYPE CAPS, A SPOKESMAN FOR THE DEPARTMENT SAID.
