ACCORDING TO THE SURVEY, 2 376 SITE CONTRACTS WERE CARRIED OUT IN 1982, OF WHICH 737 CONTRACTS RELATED TO PUBLIC WORKS PROJECTS AND 1 639 RELATED TO PRIVATE CONSTRUCTION.

TOTAL GROSS VALUE OF CONSTRUCTION WORK PERFORMED IN THESE CONTRUCTS WERE $22 293 MILLION, 14 PER CENT HIGHER THAN IN 1981.

ON THE EXPENDITURE SIDE, $1 399 MILLION WERE SPENT ON WAGES TO DIRECTLY EMPLOYED OPERATIVES: $5 351 MILLION ON BUILDING MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES; AND $11 963 MILLION ON SUB-CONTRACT WORK RENDERED BY OTHER ESTABLISHMENTS.

IN TERMS OF GROSS VALUE OF CONSTRUCTION WORK PERFORMED, THE MOST IMPORTANT CATEGORIES OF PROJECTS WERE RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS, AND COMMERCIAL AND COMPOSITE BUILDINGS.

REGARDING THE REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT SECTOR, THE SURVEY SHOWED AT THERE WERE 1 063 ACTIVE PRIVATE REAL ESTATE PROJECTS IN 1989.

THE TOTAL VALUE ACCRUED TO THESE PROJECTS WAS $27 911 MILLION. WITH AN INCREASE OF 7 PER CENT OVER 1981.

THE PROJECT OUTLAYS WERE $17 639 MILLION. COMPRISED $12 528 MILLION ON PAYMENTS TO CONTRACTORS AND BUILDING MATERIALS FOR CONSTRUCTION: $678 MILLION ON ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN AND TECHNICAL CONSULTANCY FEES: $4 095 MILLION ON INTEREST PAYMENTS AND $338 MILLION ON OTHER PROJECT EXPENSES.

COMPARISON OF THE VARIOUS TYPES OF PROJECTS BY THEIR VALUE ACCRUED SHOWS THAT THE MOST IMPORTANT CATEGORIES WERE MULTI-PURPOSE COMMERCIAL PREMISES AND PRIVATE RESIDENTIAL PREMISES.

REGARDING ARCHITECTURAL, SURVEYING AND PROJECT ENGINEERING SERVICES, THE SURVEY INDICATED THAT THERE WERE 518 SUCH ESTABLISHMENTS OPERATING IN 1982 ENGAGING A TOTAL OF 10 268 PERSONS.

THE IR TOTAL BUSINESS RECEIPTS WERE $2 076 MILLION, COMPRISING $2 027 MILLION OF SERVICE INCOME FOR PROVIDING PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AND $50 MILLION OF BUSINESS RECEIPTS

THIS REPRESENTED AN INCREASE OF FROM SECONDARY ACTIVITIES.

24 PER CENT OVER 1981.

THEIR TOTAL EXPENDITURES WERE $1 656 MILLION, COMPRISING $926 MILLION ON COMPENSATION OF EMPLOYEES: $70 MILLION ON CONSUMPTION OF SUNDRY SUPPLIES AND INDUSTRIAL SERVICES: $366 MILLION ON PAYMENTS FOR COMMISSION WORK; AND $294 MILLION ON MISCELLANEOUS OPERATING EXPENSES.

TOTAL VALUE ADDED WAS $1 360 MILLION, AN INCREASE OF 20 PER CENT OVER 1981.

REGARDING REAL ESTATE LEASING, BROKERAGE AND MAINTENANCE SERVICES, 2 155 ESTABLISHMENTS WERE ENGAGED IN THESE TRADES IN 1982, AND THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PERSONS DIRECTLY ENGAGED WAS 19 800.
