EFFECTIVE STREET MANAGEMENT OPERATIONS TO ALLEVIATE THESE PROBLEMS CANNOT BE UNDERTAKEN BECAUSE OF THE STATUS OF THE STREET AS PRIVATE LAND.

IT IS PROPOSED THEREFORE TO RESUME A SECTION OF THE STREET SO THAT THE GOVERNMENT CAN FIRST REPAIR AND THEREAFTER MAINTAIN THE STREET AND DRAINS TO A PROPER STANDARD FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

THE PROPOSED REPAIR WORK WILL INVOLVE RECONSTRUCTION OF PARTS OF THE CARRIAGEWAY, FOOTPATHS AND DRAINS.

WORK ON THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED BY THE MIDDLE OF NEXT YEAR.

A NOTICE CONCERNING THE PROPOSED PROJECT HAS BEEN PUBLISHED IN THE GOVERNMENT GAZETTE,

A PLAN SHOWING THE WORK AND LAND TO BE RESUMED CAN BE SEEN AT CENTRAL AND WESTERN DISTRICT OFFICE, CENTRAL ENQUIRY SUB-OFFICE, CENTRAL GOVERNMENT OFFICES, WEST WING MAIN ENTRANCE, HONG KONG; DISTRICT LANDS OFFICE (HONG KONG NORTH), 12TH FLOOR, HARBOUR CENTRE, HARBOUR ROAD, HONG KONG; AND WAN CHAI DISTRICT OFFICE, TUNG WAH MANSION, 201 HENNESSY ROAD, GROUND FLOOR, HONG KONG.

ANYONE OBJECTING TO THE PROPOSAL SHOULD WRITE TO THE SECRETARY FOR LANDS AND WORKS BY FEBRUARY 21.

ADVISORY SERVICE GETS MORE SCHOOL SUPPORT

SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS HAVE BEEN GIVING GROWING SUPPORT FOR ACTIVITIES ORGANISED BY THE YOUTH EMPLOYMENT ADVISORY SERVICE OF THE LABOUR DEPARTMENT.

THIS WAS STATED BY THE ACTING COMMISSIONER FOR LABOUR,

DR JAMES HAYES, THIS (FRIDAY) MORNING AT THE PRIZE PRESENTATION OF A CAREERS QUIZ COMPETITION ORGANISED BY THE SERVICE IN CONJUNCTION WITH ITS CAREERS '84 EXHIBITION HELD IN THE CITY HALL LAST MONTH.

DR HAYES POINTED OUT THAT 75 000 STUDENTS FROM 157 SCHOOLS TOOK PART IN THE QUIZ COMPETITION THIS YEAR, COMPARED WITH 60 000 FROM 104 SCHOOL LAST YEAR.

+WE CERTAINLY FIND THE INCREASE ENCOURAGING, AS IT REFLECTS THE GROWING SUPPORT FROM SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS FOR ACTIVITIES ORGANISED BY THE SERVICE, HE SAID.

DR HAYES STRESSED THAT THE QUIZ WAS ONE OF THE ACTIVITIES ORGANISED BY THE SERVICE TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE CHOOSE A CAREER BEST SUITED TO THEIR TALENTS, INTERESTS AND ABILITIES,
