KEEPING HK CLEAN IS AN ON-GOING EFFORT

KEEP HONG KONG CLEAN AND GREEN IS AN ON-GOING COMMITMENT BY BOTH THE PUBLIC AND THE GOVERNMENT, SAID AN UNOFFICIAL MEMBER OF THE NEW TERRITORIES ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF THE CLEAN HONG KONG CAMPAIGN, MR WAI HON-LEUNG, TODAY (SATURDAY).

MR WAI MADE THIS REMARK AFTER SEEING SOME OF THE CLEANSING SERVICES IN SHA TIN AND THE PLANTING PROJECTS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS IN THE NEW TOWN DURING A TWO-HOUR TOUR.

ACCOMPANYING MR WAI ON THE TOUR WERE THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR (OPERATIONS) OF THE NEW TERRITORIES SERVICES, MR DAVID WEEKS, AND THE URBAN SERVICES OFFICER OF SHA TIN, MR NG YING-NEEN.

THE PARTY FIRST VISITED SIU LEK YUEN TO SEE A CONCRETE VILLAGE FOOTPATH BUILT IN OCTOBER 1981 TO FACILITATE REFUSE COLLECTION.

MR WAI WAS BRIEFED ON THE IMPORTANCE OF THE 1200-METRE FOOTPATH IN KEEPING SIU LEK YUEN AND SIX ADJACENT VILLAGES CLEAN.

AT NGAU PEI SHA, MR WAI WAS IMPRESSED WITH ITS REFUSE COLLECTION AND OTHER RELATED FACILITIES.

LATER HE VISITED PEI TAU VILLAGE AND SAW THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE NEW TERRITORIES SERVICES DEPARTMENT'S CLEAN-UP OPERATIONS.

MR WAI URGED VILLAGERS TO MAKE FULL USE OF A TEMPORARY REFUSE AND JUNK COLLECTION FACILITY SET UP THERE RECENTLY.

THE PARTY THEN TOURED FOUR NEWLY-BUILT ROADSIDE AMENITY PLOTS WHERE MORE THAN 60 000 PLANTS HAD BEEN GROWN.

PES HANDLING WIDE RANGE OF ENQUIRIES

MATTERS CONCERNING THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TOPPED THE LIST OF ENQUIRIES MADE AT THE 59 PUBLIC ENQUIRY SERVICE (PES) CENTRE OF THE CITY AND NEW TERRITORIES ADMINISTRATION DURING THE LAST FINANCIAL YEAR.

THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY HOUSING RATING AND VALUATION, GOVERNMENT SECRETARIAT AND IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENTS.

A CNTA SPOKESMAN SAID THE PES CENTRES HANDLED 449 105 ENQUIRIES ABOUT EDUCATION, 23 PER CENT OF WHICH CONCERNED OVERSEAS STUDIES AND 25 PER CENT ON PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION.

AMONG THE 339 209 ENQUIRIES ON THE HOUSING DEPARTMENT, MORE THAN 45 PER CENT WERE ABOUT APPLICATION FOR PUBLIC HOUSING AND 24 PER CENT ON THE HOME OWNERSHIP SCHEME.
