PROJECT TO INCREASE WATER SUPPLY

THE WATER SUPPLIES DEPARTMENT IS INVITING TENDERS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A CIVIL ENGINEERING PROJECT FOR SHEUNG SHUI · TREATMENT WORKS STAGE I, AT ORE HILL, SHEUNG SHUI.

WATER SUPPLY TO NORTHEASTERN NEW TERRITORIES IS AT PRESENT PROVIDED FROM THE TREATMENT WORKS AT TAI PO TAU.

DUE TO ON-GOING AND PROPOSED DEVELOPMENTS IN THIS PART OF THE NEW TERRITORIES, DEMAND FOR WATER SUPPLY IS INCREASING.

THE NEW SCHEME AT SHEUNG SHUI WILL AUGMENT THE EXISTING SUPPLY SYSTEM TO MEET THIS GROWING DEMAND.

THE SCHEME COMPRISES THE TREATMENT WORKS AT ORB HILL, A SERVICE RESERVOIR AT TABLE HILL, SHEUNG SHUI, A PUMPING STATION AND ASSOCIATED WATER MAINS.

WHEN COMPLETED, THE TREATMENT WORKS WILL HAVE A CAPACITY OF 100 000 CUBIC METRES DAILY.

EXTENSION CAN BE MADE TO INCREASE THE ULTIMATE CAPACITY TO 240 000 CUBIC METRES DAILY.

TREATED WATER FROM THE WORKS WILL BE PUMPED TO THE PROPOSED SERVICE RESERVOIR AT TABLE HILL AS WELL AS TO THE EXISTING SERVICE RESERVOIR AT TONG HANG.

WORK IS EXPECTED TO START NEXT MONTH AND WILL TAKE ABOUT 24 MONTHS TO COMPLETE.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES COURSES

MORE THAN $370 000 WILL BE AVAILABLE THIS YEAR FOR SCHOLARSHIPS, GRANTS AND INTEREST-FREE LOANS THROUGH TWO SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS ADMINISTERED BY THE AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES DEPARTMENT.

THE FUNDS ARE THE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

AND THE MARINE FISH SCHOLARSHIP FUND.

APPLICATION FORMS MAY BE OBTAINED FROM THE AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS ON THE 12TH FLOOR OF THE CANTON ROAD GOVERNMENT OFFICES AT 393 CANTON ROAD IN KOWLOON. APPLICATIONS CLOSE ON JULY 8.

THE AWARDS ARE TENABLE AT A UNIVERSITY IN HONG KONG, THE HONG KONG POLYTECHNIC, OR AN ACCEPTABLE OVERSEAS INSTITUTION.

CANDIDATES SHOULD BE HONG KONG RESIDENTS, PREFERABLY UNDER 30 YEARS OF AGE AND GENERALLY STUDENTS WHO MAY BE EXPECTED TO MAKE A SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION TO EITHER AGRICULTURAL OR FISHERIES INDUSTRIES IN HONG KONG ON QUALIFICATION.
