COMMITTEE STAGE AMENDMENTS TO BILLS

SEVERAL AMENDMENTS TO THE LANDLORDS AND TENANT (CONSOLIDATION) (AMENDMENT) BILL 1983, PUBLISHED ON APRIL 15, WILL BE MOVED IN THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL ON JUNE 8 DURING THE COMMITTEE STAGE.
THE SECRETARY FOR HOUSING, MR DONALD LIAO, WILL MOVE AN AMENDMENT TO CHANGE THE COMMENCEMENT DATE IN CLAUSE (2) FROM AUGUST 1 TO JUNE 10. THE MOST IMPORTANT RESULT OF THIS PROPOSED AMENDMENT WOULD BE TO EFFECT THE PROPOSED EXCLUSION OF FRESH LETTINGS OF PREMISES ON JUNE 10, INSTEAD OF JULY 1. MR LIAO WILL ALSO BE MOVING A NUMBER OF LEGAL AND TECHNICAL AMENDMENTS TO THE BILL.
MR S.L. CHEN WILL MOVE AMENDMENTS TO CLAUSES 11 AND 30(D) TO ENSURE THAT THE PROTECTION UNDER THE LEGISLATION INTENDED ONLY FOR THOSE FAMILY MEMBERS RESIDING WITH A DECEASED TENANT AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH, WILL NOT BE TRANSFERRED TO OTHER PERSONS.
AMENDMENTS TO CLAUSES 15(H) AND 37(A) TO PRESERVE THE STATUS QUO IN RESPECT OF THE PERIOD OF RESTRICTION ON ALIENATION OF PREMISES REPOSSESSED BY THE LANDLORD FOR SELF OR FAMILY'S OCCUPATION OR FOR REDEVELOPMENT WILL BE MOVED BY MR J.J. SWAINE.
