WASHWATER RECOVERY SYSTEM FOR TSUEN WAN TREATMENT WORKS

A WASHWATER RECOVERY SYSTEM WILL BE BUILT WITHIN THE COMPOUND OF THE TSUEN WAN TREATMENT WORKS AS PART OF A PROJECT TO RAISE THE PLANT'S EXISTING CAPACITY TO 317 000 CUBIC METRES PER DAY.
A $2.3 MILLION CONTRACT FOR THE WORK WAS AWARDED BY THE WATER SUPPLIES DEPARTMENT AND SIGNED THIS MORNING BY MR LEE GUN-CHEUNG, CHIEF ENGINEER (CONSTRUCTION) OF THE DEPARTMENT AND A REPRESENTATIVE OF KIN SHING CONSTRUCTION CO.
WORK ON THE CONTRACT COMPRISES THE CONSTRUCTION OF THREE WASHWATER RECOVERY TANKS, EACH WITH A CAPACITY OF 270 CUBIC METRES, A SMALL PUMP HOUSE, AND 500 METRES OF INLET AND DISCHARGE PIPES.
MR LEE SAID THAT ON COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT, FILTERED WASHWATER FORMERLY DISCHARGED AS WASTE WOULD BE RECOVERED AND UP TO 7 000 CUBIC METRES OF WATER COULD BE SAVED DAILY.
WORK ON THE CONTRACT WILL TAKE ABOUT EIGHT MONTHS TO COMPLETE.
