MATERNITY LEAVE BENEFITS REVISED

MATERNITY LEAVE BENEFITS FOR WOMEN OFFICERS IN THE CIVIL SERVICE, INTRODUCED FOR MANY YEARS, HAVE BEEN FURTHER REVISED FROM JUNE 1.
THE REVISED BENEFITS ARE GENERALLY IN LINE WITH THE PRACTICE OF THE BETTER EMPLOYERS IN HONG KONG, A GOVERNMENT SPOKESMAN SAID.
STATUTORY BENEFITS FOR WOMEN EMPLOYEES IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR
HAVE ALREADY BEEN REVISED FROM THE SAME DATE.
UNDER THE NEW ARRANGEMENTS, WOMEN OFFICERS WHO HAVE COMPLETED 40 WEEKS OF RESIDENT SERVICE MAY NOW BE GRANTED FULL PAY MATERNITY LEAVE UP TO TEN WEEKS, HE SAID.
THE REVISED BENEFITS ARE LIMITED TO THREE SURVIVING CHILDREN, AND NOT MORE THAN SIX WEEKS OF THE 10 WEEKS MAY BE TAKEN FOLLOWING THE BIRTH OF THE CHILD.
FORMERLY, WOMEN OFFICERS WERE REQUIRED TO WORK FOR AT LEAST 12 MONTHS BEFORE THEY WERE ELIGIBLE FOR HALF PAID MATERNITY LEAVE, THE SPOKESMAN EXPLAINED.
AND OFFICERS ARE NO LONGER REQUIRED TO USE UP ALL THE IR EARNED CASUAL AND VACATION LEAVE BEFORE THE PAID MATERNITY LEAVE IS GRANTED.
