FIELD DAY FOR TEACHERS

THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT HAS ORGANISED A SERIES OF SMALL GROUP DISCUSSIONS FOR TEACHERS FROM AIDED PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS TO MEET WITH ITS STAFF TO FURTHER IMPROVE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE TWO PARTIES.

THE DISCUSSIONS WILL PROVIDE TEACHERS WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS FREELY AND SPONTANEOUSLY IN AN INFORMAL SETTING, AN EDUCATION DEPARTMENT SPOKESMAN SAID.

THE TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION WERE CHOSEN FROM SUGGESTIONS SENT IN BY PARTICIPATING TEACHERS, HE SAID.

OF COMMON INTEREST TO BOTH PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS ARE TEACHER-CLASS RATIO, THE REPORT BY THE STANDING COMMISSION ON CIVIL SERVICE SALARIES AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE. LEAVE, PROVIDENT FUND, AND MORAL AND SEX EDUCATION.

IN ADDITION, PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS WILL DISCUSS GRANT FOR EXTRA-CURRICULAR DUTIES, AND FULL-DAY PRIMARY SESSIONS.

SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS WILL BE DISCUSSING EQUAL FRINGE BENEFITS FOR TEACHERS IN GOVERNMENT AND AIDED SCHOOLS, JUVENILE CRIME AND THE PROBLEM OF REPEATERS.

THE GROUP DISCUSSIONS WILL BE CONDUCTED IN CANTONESE, AND EACH GROUP WILL BE CHAIRED BY A SENIOR OFFICER OF THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT.

ABOUT 950 TEACHERS ARE EXPECTED TO TAKE PART IN THE DISCUSSIONS, WHICH WILL BE IN 29 GROUPS, AT THE VARIOUS CENTRES ON FRIDAY (MARCH 20).

THE NEW TERRITORIES ADMINISTRATION IS INVITING TENDERS FOR A SHORT-TERM TENANCY FOR A PIECE OF CROWN LAND AT TAI PO NEW TOWN FOR USE AS A CONCRETE BATCHING PLANT.

THE 2 000 SQUARE METRE SITE IS ON THE RECLAMATION AT TING KOK ROAD NEAR THE INDUSTRIAL ESTATE, WHERE CONSTRUCTION OF FACTORY PREMISES IS IN PROGRESS.

THE TENANCY IS FOR AN INITIAL PERIOD OF TWO YEARS, RENEWABLE QUARTERLY AFTERWARDS.

TENDER FORMS AND CONDITIONS OF TENANCY ARE NOW OBTAINABLE AT NEW TERRITORIES ADMINISTRATION HEADQUARTERS AND DISTRICT OFFICES OF ISLANDS, SAI KUNG, SHA TIN, TAI PO, NORTH, TSUEN WAN, TUEN MUN AND YUEN LONG.

TENDERS MUST BE SUBMITTED BEFORE NOON ON MARCH 27.
