ADDRESS BY H.E. THE ACTING GOVERNOR, SIR JACK CATER KBE JP AT THE AUXILIARY MEDICAL SERVICE OFFICERS' MESS DINNER

ON 8 AUGUST 1980

It is a great pleasure for me to be here with you to celebrate the

30th Anniversary of the founding of the Auxiliary Medical Service.

I have

I have long admired the selfless and unstinting contribution

which the AMS has made on so very many occasions to the welfare of our

community. This contribution has been a considerable one throughout the

years of your existence: and as a former Defence Secretary I remember only

too well the invaluable work that the Service has performed in the past,

especially for the less privileged members of the community.

Wherever and whenever help and assistance is needed to support

at our

the regular medical and health services you are to be found

beaches, in our hospitals, on ambulances and nowadays (most importantly

and very regularly) in the methadone treatment centres throughout the

territory. Your role is one of great importance and your voluntary services

a source of inspiration and encouragement to everyone with whom you come

Nowhere was this more obviously demonstrated than in the

in contact.

/splendid way .....
